Hello all , My 87 Maxima has about 160kmi on engine and lately I have noticed that, after warmup the oil pressure drops. Not alot but it seems to go down to the 1/4 mark according to the gauge. Ichange the oil/filtr every 3k and use 10-30 mo oilI bought the car about 1.5 yrs ago and to tell youse the truth did'nt pay too much attention to it. Is there a common prob here.At freewy speeds it stays at the 1/2 way mark.I remeber when I had one new in 87 I shut off the car while at speed and she told me "LOW OIL PRESSURE" so I guess I'll wait until this one lets me know. what thinks you?

Well, how much oil are you putting in the engine when you do the oil change? Is it burning any oil during the oil change interval.

A lower oil pressure over time is usually a result of worn engine bearings. As the bearings wear, it creates a less restriction on the oil pump. Because of this less restriction, it will result in more flow, and less oil pressure to be developed. This could be a beginning problem to an engine that is wearing down.

Hello, thanks for your answerback. I change the oil according to the owners man,and she does'nt seem to burn any in between. My wife is very good at checking the vitals evry morning before startup.Wow worn bearings huh? Oh well looks like this summer I'll be shopping for an exch. engine. I thought maybe I could get away with just changing the oil pump.
