Hey Nissan Fam ! Well y’all helped me get her running earlier this year, Praise Jesus ! But she took a turn for the worse. She sounds like she did when the MAF a was bad. Engine surging, coughing out, morning sickness in the cold, running rich, will choke out if gas isn’t continuously pumped into her. Oil pressure gauge sporadically fluctuates. Someone removed the cat converter system (see other posts) when Mom still owned her. This is what we have done thus far:
She only has 130k miles.
Codes: 43 throttle pos sensor & 11 Crank angle/cam pos sensor *these were replaced last year
We did the “extra tests’ for those codes and nothing came up. Cleared codes tried driving up and down driveway- tried is the operable word there… towed back to my garage. No codes after the test drive attempt.
Compression checks showed 2 cylinders low on drivers side… 1-135, 2-100, 3-135, 4-90, 5-135, 6-135. Honestly, if I knew what that meant I could have my own Gitter Runin’ reality TV show… lol
Pulled passenger side valve cover but don’t see anything obvious that’s creating the metal to metal noise coming from that area. sounds like something rattling inside….
I’m sure it’s never had valves adjusted…
Replaced MAF sensor, no improvement still runs like poop…
Distributor cap had small crack in it. Pulled it and found the rotor had gouged one of the cap electrodes, but I don’t think that would be causing engine issues.
Sooooooooooo…. This is just too much for me ! I am in south central Kentucky, if anyone knows a guy who knows their way around a D21 engine somewhere near me…I’ve read y’all’s posts… choose a mechanic wisely.. many do not know the intricacies of a d21! If any EXPERT on here wants to try their hand at it (within reasonable distance) I’ll deliver and work out $.
Thank you for making it to the end of my saga ;)
