Ok, I'm sure this has been covered hundreds of times, but I'm new to the forum and need a little bit of direct help.

I have a 86' N/A that I've been pulling teeth with for the last month or so.

Background: Car was a daily driver for about a year when all of a sudden it would crank one day after going in and out of a store. Turns out it was the CAS. I got it replaced and the next day going to work it stopped on me again. After being towed and looked over, turns out the wiring harness to my fuel injectors burned out. So, out of money, the car sat for the last year. After finally managing to have a sufficient amount of spare change to buy parts, I purchased a engine harness and an ecu, in hopes of clean, plug, and play but no go.

The car putts like its going to crank then gives me nothing. Going back within the last year, the CAS, ecu, engine harness, plugs, wires, and ignition coil have all been replaced. ECU gives me codes 13, 23, 31. All of which I'm sure I had when I was driving it as a DD.

Any ideas?????? I'd really love to get back to driving it again. Any help would be appreciated greatly as I am running out of teeth to pull and hair to grow thin of (LOL)..

I'd start pulling connectors and cleaning them, the codes you have are for the TPS, MAS and Ignition. The ignitor has been known to be a bit troublesome as these cars age, might be worth picking one up at a scrap yard or even upgrading t the pathfinder ignitor.

Ok so I changed the ignition control module and voila.... it cranked. Now its a super rough idle..maybe 500 rpm.. i can gently play with the gas to rev it up but "horsing" it is definitely a no. It cuts straight off if I look like I want to stomp the gas. It hasnt ran in a good while so in respect of that I let it roughly idle for about 45 mins.. but when it comes todoing anything else it turns off.. any ideas??

I'm not sure. I would think that would be for when its at idle only and would go away when I press the gas wouldn't it? I don't know honestly just saying off of the name of the part

Poor idle could be a bad dirty or poorly adjusted iacv or vac leak. If the engine won't rev then it's likely the fuel pump, tps, mas or vac leak. When I say vac leak I mean any unmetered air entering the system, check everything from the mas back.

So I'm still having starting issues. Managed to crank sometimes with same erratic idle, & other times I get nothing. I read about the ignition control module & pwr-2 power transistor upgrade. Could this be a problem and fix? I firstly got it to crank by switching out the ICM. Ideas???? Thanks.

Some of your statement doesn't make any sense. If it's cranking it's not idling, if it's idling it's not cranking. Is the problem cranking? Or is the problem idling? Any codes still present?

Sorry about that. That was very unclear. My biggest problem is cranking inconsistency. Especially if I let it sit some days. Where the confusing part of what I was trying to explain came in was I was stating when it does crank, its still rough idle. But honestly I dont care about that just yet, I'd like to be able to turn the key and It cranks. Codes thrown are 23 & 31.

So TPS and possible ecu or a voltage issue which is possible from a lot of cranking and possible jumping. Have a good look at the tps connector, the FSM details adjusting and testing the TPS. Start with a good charged battery and see if the other code clears.

I'm usually at bluegrass z car club meetings as well as all local scca events.
