I have an 86 720 4X4 that does not idle well. Once below 1,000 rpm it sputters and stalls. It also surges and has hesitation until about 3000 rpm. Here is a list of what I've done. New plugs, rotor and cap. Checked ignition timing. Installed a new idle switch. Check vacuum hoses and sensors including a new 02 sensor. Computer does not show any codes and returns a 44. The motor is a fresh reman as well. Is there anything I can do to get this truck to run right? Has anyone experienced this issue before? Any help appreciated!

The timing chain is correct. I'm pulling my hair out with this thing. When you start it, it runs great for about 10 seconds and then it goes to crap. I'm thinking its something to do with open/closed loop system of the eccm. The ignition timing looks right (5 degrees BTDC) for about 10 seconds and then goes to about 10 degrees ATDC with the distributor turned all of the way BTDC. I've checked and trouble shot all of the sensors (I have the factory supplement manual for the 1986 z24i electro injection) and they all are fine. I'm starting to think it's the eccm itself.

carb'd? replace all vacuum lines. The manual says to check for leaks grab some hose and use it like a stethoscope and follow the vac line listening for leaky sounds. *edit you checked them

You replace your fuel filter lately? I replaced mine and my 720 starts easier than before.

How does your valve train look?

How's the fuel pressure? Is it steady?
