I'm working on an 86 300z non turbo, man. trans. It stalls out at 2150 rpm, and picks back up around 1800 rpm. I've tried everything, including ecm replacement, maf, tps, (vehicle did have tps code w/ original ecm), crank angle sensor/ pickup, dropped the exhaust to see if the cat was clogged creating back pressure. I'm told there's a rev limiter involved with the maf signal that would cause this problem, but checking the voltages to the ecm from the maf reads 2.4-3.6 dcv. Supposedly within specs. Fuel pressure was below specs, so we replaced it also, along with pressure regulator....no help.
Anybody ever run across this problem? Any one familiar with the rev limiter circuitry? Any help would be deeply appreciated, and yes, we have considered c4.

Have you checked all of your vaccum lines? With a car this old, it's a possibility that you've got a leak. Check for cracked/broken vaccum lines or disconnected lines.

Appreciate your response there MaximA, I finally figured out what was wrong. I haven't had the chance to post what I found, I'm still fuming over it. Seems the previous owner lived in a high crime area, so he wired in to the TPS circuit a kill switch that the switch itself shorted , and kept the circuit in closed loop (0 OHMS) all the time. I had a continous code 23, and found the signal and return wires were shorted together. I went to bypass the these wires with jumper wires from the TPS to the ECM, and when I peeled back the harness at the connectors for the ECM, there they were......clipped them out of the circuit, and the car ran like a champ.   :tisk: :tisk: :tisk: :wtf2:
So this has been a damn expensive lesson for me and my customer ( he just bought the car a month ago). He told me that the guy he got the car from (who lives in another state) raced this car, and there's no telling what else we'll find that's he rigged up.
Thanks everybody!!!! :mike :mike :mike
