On cold starts, at the first stop, the transmission seems to slip. Fluid does not smell burnt but it's as if the one way clutch in the toque converter does not engage until 2000rpm. Or transmission is being starved of fluid at that point, after warm-up it's fine. Also, transmission does not go into o/d until warm. (Although I here that is normal) If it is living by a freeway on ramp can be awfully annowing) Have yet to drop the pan yet. Any input?

Thanks, Bob

drop the pan could be something as simple as a clogged filter could be when you drip the pan your gonna find a few metal shavings indicatings something more serious although it sounds like you could just use a good flush you really are not going to know until you drop the pan and see how varnished everything is or if there is exessive metal in the pan

thanks very much, kinda where i thought you would head. everythings fine then transmission starves for fluid until warm. once warm fluid travels through filter easier. from what i understand the filter is cleanable? any idea on the long delayed shift to o/d until warm?

it is much better to just go with a new filter your slow shifting is probably due to a modulator valve of some sort im assuming if you pull the pan off and see alot of varnish built up on the valve body i would think about having it flushed the down side to that is sometimes it makes it better sometimes it uncovers more problems in an old transmission. Ive never pulled one of those automatics apart before but im almost sure you could get a new modulator valve for it if thats is the case
