there is a problem with my '85 Z31's A/C system. When I turn on my ac, it's hot as if I had my heater on. Something like this happened to my dad's '86 once, but I forgot what is was. It was some valve or something in the engine bay that controled whether the heater or the ac was activated. well, that isn't functioning properly and was curious as to wether anyone else has had this problem? as always, your time is much appreciated, "Z"ack

Is the compressor kicking in? if not, chances are, you're low on refrigerant. If you are low on refrigerant, you have a leak. Replace all the seals (when one leaks, the rest soon follow). If this is the case, now is a good time to convert to 134A (if it hasn't already been done). If the compressor is kicking in, you may need something else.

there si a valve near the firewal, it's vacume comtrrolled, so it could be a bad valve, or simeply a bad vac line or could be the dashpot under the dash the regulates the vacume, I'd start with the hoses, and take a good look at the dashpots under the dash, most likely it's a vacume problem

i had my heater core replaced about a month ago and the guy told me that that valve was going to need to be replaced. but i don't hear the compressor either. A/c and A/V are the only things on a car that i'm completely stupid with, but i'll start with what you guys said. thanks for helping out the newbie.
