Recently rebuilt a carb for high idleing issues was a fun experience and not much to it IMO. Installed it however did not fix the issue luckily my dad had an cuople extra Hitachi carbs laying around installed the one with the least cobwebs on lol i know should of just replaced seals but got inpatient. Sothe new carb i installed is actually an older model i thinkd didnt have all the extra wires as this carb this one only has the wire for the electric choke and dieselin solenoid. Got my lil truck to idle at around 900_1000 which is way smoother than it was before. Took her to work today around 50 miles one way. With the old carb i wasted a full tank in 150 mils so thats around 10MPG ouch !!! Was hoping to do better with this one however day one 100 miles later allready 1/2 a tank gone so not much better so far. Also couldnt get her passed 55mph pedal to the floor and nada. When i got home opened the hood and realized i didnt put the airfilter housing back on hoping this helps. Gunna test her out tommorow so is 10mpgs normal and how about the MPHS can i get her past 55mph.

A 4X4 will get less MPG than a 2WD. I get 22MPG with my 2WD and I never use 5th gear because it's got a tooth out. These trucks can get 30MPG if they are running properly. I think you can be happy with anything over 24MPG.

If you are using oversize or different than stock rims and tires, make sure you include that in your calculations. I can easily do 70MPH if it's on level highway. My truck lacks acceleration and passing power, but I can get where I'm going and keep the speed up.

Do a compassion test or leak down test on each cylinder. I suspect you might have low compression. That would be a bad thing, but then you will not keep wasting money trying to improve other components.

I'll let other members comment on that because I've never rebuilt an engine. Another thing to check is the timing. If the timing is not properly set, then you lose power and MPG.

My 4x4 gets about 12 mpg but it's sitting on 32" tires and has a 3" body lift, I knew the bigger tires would goof the speedometer readings but didn't know how far it was off, thinking I was doing about 70 when it was reading 65 etc. Then I just thought "hey.. you got gps on your phone.. let's see what this thing is really doing.." Needless to say, the truck could do just over 70 on the speedo, thinking that was giving me a top speed around 75 or so, and letting it cruise at around 65. After setting up the GPs, I found out 65 on the speedo was really about 77, and when I was pushing it around 75 I was reading 89 mph on the gps.

I've since slowed down to a more sane speed for this truck but knowing this thing can do 90 with a nearly stock 4 banger, big tires, and a lift kit was pretty impressive.

For gas milage, 12 mpg is the average but I'm usually doing 70 or so on my way to work etc, and it does get better milage if I leave it in 4th, it'll do 70 in 5th, but there's not much acceleration and it's hard to maintain speed if the road is anything but perfectly flat or down hill. I put it in 5th on the way to work since it's slightly downhill, but on the way home I have to keep it in 4th to run 70 to 75 mph.

Also since I'm planning on putting a turrbo in it (got a pile of parts in the garage just waiting to get a few more pieces), I already got te vacuum/boost gauge set up and it'll maintain about 10 to 15 in/hg doing 65 on the highway, but at 70 and above it reads really close to 0 so the milage suffers significantly just going 5 to 10 mph faster. I'm sure it would do closer to 20 mpg at 65 mph and under, and also if I put smaller tires and got rid of the lift kit... but then it wouldn't look as cool...

I drove about 350km and it cost me $40 in this truck... I did the exact same drive in my saturn(it should get 40~ mpg) and it cost me $30. This was with a bad timing chain and the crap hitachi carb. I hear people can get over 30 mpg with the 32/36 weber kit. I just installed it and it does give me better mpg(not sure the exact numbers) and TONS of more power. Oh yeah and stock these trucks should give you around 27mpg in city and highway.

oh yeah and I have p235(I think) tires with the torsion bars cranked all the way up to give me a little lift.
