I have tried searching the forums but am having difficulty finding answers. tried to message evildky but can't for some reason

I am looking for recommendations on tire size/wheels to upgrade from the stock 16's. I want stiffer sidewall and preferably black wheels in a 17" or 18" size

the little bit I found is that these z cars are touchy little girls that you can't just slap a good looking wheel on because they may rub. I am not concerned too much with speedo accuracy

thanks in advance

ps I did see somewhere that someone had some sort of older jeep grand Cherokee (I think?!) wheels which would've been 16's and they actually looked pretty sweet, but I can't find that post again to see what they were exactly

The 84 AE came with stock 16x7 which IIRC is a +30 offset. The mustang cobra 17x9's are a popular choice but you have to run a stretched tire or roll the fender or maybe a small spacer to clear the struts? not really sure but I've seen a lot fo them on Z31's. The 350Z stock touring wheels were an 18x8 +30 and should be a direct fit although you might need a lower profile tire or a narrow stretched tire to clear. There are wheeled out there you just gotta do some homework to find them as no one really caters to these cars. Evo's use a similar offset and share the bolt pattern, many mustangs do as well.

I wouldn't try to go up as big as 18", since the car came with 16". There are great tire choices in the 16" size to choose from to update the ride, but if you want to do the wheels tire rack probably has something that would fit. I have a NA sot he 4 bolt wheels held me to 16" Enkei's that are great, ride super solid and balance like OEM. You can switch over to super sticky tires too for pretty cheap and it will transform the handling. I put 225 50 16 Bridgestone Potenza RE-71R with the Enkei Classic Comp Gunmetal ($143 per wheel) with the wheels pre-mounted and balanced for $1200.

The mustang route seems to work for alot of people, but there is nothing like a good brand new set of wheels and tires for an older car like ours.
