has anyone made change over to using the tranny and motorL24-L28 drive train from 240Z OR 280Z Datsun?

I have 1 owner 1984 720 Z24 motor 5 speed tranny in it. he did 3 head gasket replacements. everything else in the truck is original, I mean everything.air filter he kept blowing it out.he had HANGER wires holding stuff UP.

He even had a clutch from 1984 the odometer miles 251768 before I replaced the bearing was squeaky as heck. I asked if he ever replaced it he said no need the truck drove fine. he drove many highway miles before he retired the truck. now to a few miles a month. I have replaced water pump and had radiator cleaned out. replaced clutch kit and bearing. redid the brakes and replaced brake fluid. replaced the calipers.

before I put any more money into it just wondering if any of you have tried the change out I am asking about.

Its been done here in the Caribbean. I know of three individuals who has done it, including my brother. Had no problems as the tranny here is for the L18 or J16. Bell housing and drive shaft output shaft are the same. The straight 6 swap would have to be fan-less and the mounts for the engine would need modifying. Even L28E engines are rare here, so most are carbed. Now my brother runs the RB20DET in his king cab.

I plan on doing a l28et in my longbed im getting, Its at my friends house just waiting for him to tow it.

here is what Im going to be using1978 2+2 l28e so it has the bigger flywheel, 4spd trans and has non turbo compression1981 280zx turbo parts, manifold, turbo etc.1983 280zx turbo distributor set up for 300zx cas wheel/fuel injection.1985 300zx turbo injectors, ecu, and a 1987 300zx wiring harness

all of this is in my 76 280z but it need so much body work and no title so im getting a 85 720 with no engine so, I think it would be a good swap

Ill for sure make a thread. If the l28 will mount up to stock trans ill use it, if not ill use the 4spd I have and get a custom DS made.

I had a 82 maxima with a l24e in it, that was fun to drive because it revved so smooth.

Yeah. They rev pretty high, but remember with the high compression detonation is a major problem. How are you going to handle it.
