first, I'm a technician by trade so I'm not completely stupid. I just picked up a 1984 300zx turbo and some kid hacked a bunch of crap. egr and ficd have all been deleted. it will not fire up for like 10 minutes and wont hold idle. looking for ideas/help. I have the factory components to reinstall but I'm wondering if there's something else going on.
thanks

Glad you also made a separate thread. Most likely you'll want to add all the removed stuff back on, or convert to stand alone, option three is adjusting the tb everytime the weather changes. Really the EGR isn't a big deal, the iacv on the other hand is what keeps you from having the adjust eh tb when the weather changes and unless you run a stand alone you are better off putting back on.

Thanks for the input. I tried to message you, in a similar thread you posted a picture of a red z which was super clean under the hood. I was curious what You did exactly. And yes I basically decided to reinstall the ficd aac assembly and check to make sure the pcv maf Are properly functioning. And Also want to make sure the other vacuum component on the passenger side on the plenum is There and functioning ( not sure what It is offhand).

Also trying to see exactly where the driver side front valve cover port is supposed to connect to the turbo or air tube and where the vacuum connections are for the ficd come from. Unfortunately searching the web can't produce good answers and manuals don't show enough

I've still got the red z31 in the pic, link in my sig. I converted to megasquirt, got rid of all the emissions stuff. I honestly would recommend nistune or similar romulator over a stand alone for the Z31, I just happened to have a spare and experience with megasquirt. Lots of info at diyautotune.com, great guys Matt is super helpful and incredibly knowledgable. But unless you plan on modding the car enough to require upsizing the injectors you won't need either.

Again I removed all that stuff from my car so going from memory here, the passenger side of the plenum won't have any idle circuit stuff just the PCV and EGR.

If it wasn't so expensive I would love to heavily modify it. Out of curiosity what would you want for your spare unit? As it stands right now the dbag I got it from deleted the egr ficd and aac. Also no cat (obviously that's not a big deal though). Would it be possible to use that unit and have the car tuned to run as is after? I have a speed shop by me that I spoke to about potential mods and he's comfortable with stand alone systems

What part of the country are you in? Careful what shop you use. Most have no experience with Z31's, and anymore most shops have no experience with non OBD2 compliant systems. Any shop that says they are comfortable with stand alone should have a chassis dyno, if they don't I wouldn't trust them. It's honestly not very expensive to modify these cars if you know what you are doing, a wrecked turbo car and a few hundred bucks for intercooler and piping and you can get around 300 whp and that's with the stock turbo ecu. I'm not looking to sell off a megasquirt but I might have the stock bits.
