Just purchased this car, prior owner had started taking the engine apart, said it needed a head gasket, didn't get too far on dissassembly(definitely not a mechanic). Reassembled & cleaned up ignition. Fire up engine to find Clack clack clack coming from the front right cylinder head. Car has been sitting for 2 years. Engine bogs when accelerator pressed. Appreciate any advice on where to start looking. could a valve train component be frozen up due to sitting? Also noted a connector with nothing plugged in at the front of the passenger side cylinder head just in front of the distributor harness? Is this for a detonation sensor? Have looked every where & not found the other side of this connector? Ideas?

Appreciate any suggestions you might have.

he was probably doing the head cause it broke a t-belt. I suspect it broke the belt and taged valves which is where your bog is coming from. do a compression check on all cyl's if the right bank has a low cyl I'll bet thats what happened and you will need to r&r that head to inspect for piston damage, head warpage and replace the bent valves. Have the valves tested by a machine shop as you may not be able to see a bent valve physically cause it will be bent so little.

Will be getting into the job this weekend. Thank you for the advice. If I find compression ok, Will pull the valve cover for a closer inspection & assess the next steps.

On the valve noise, is it possible this is a collapst lifter? Noted in the manual discussion around bleeding the hydraulic lifters. If this a common or uncommon problem?

FYI, cured the valve noise by using an oil additive, Suspect lifters were not primed appropriately, possible something hung up from sitting. Running quite well, now on to the Transmission.
