83 Maxima Diesel 5 Speed Transmission

One of the shafts in my transmission broke, as told to me by a mechanic. Does this sound as though I should try and have it rebuilt or just replace it? Not sure if the parts are readily available to rebuild it. Will a 5 speed out of an 82-83 280ZX work in the Maxima? I think there is a slight difference in the gear ratios and wonder if that would be a problem for the diesel engine to handle. I believe the rear end gears are the same in both cars.

i dont know if thats even worth rebuilding. i would think they were the same. i will ask one of the old timers at work.
