83 720 z24 - gutless at top end

She just doesn't want to take any kind of a freeway incline or hill with any pep. I have an 85 with twice as many miles that is much peppier on freeway inclines.

All smog is removed.Has a weber carb from "Big Jim" in Vancouver.Cat has been punched out.

I'm thinking it's not advancing enough under load (?????).

Setting the time from 3 BTDC to 10 BTDC helped some, but it pings under load with those settings.

Does anyone know that the total advance should be at higher RPM? Also, is the total advance different in neutral than when in 5th gear. I thought I read somewhere that advance can be electronically as well as mechanically controlled in 5th gear (although I may have misinterpreted this).

Are your spark plugs of the correct heat range and are they gapped properly?
