83 720 rear end

i blew my rear (early 83 720 5 spd 4cyl 2wd), and bought a rear from a d21 (86.5 2wd 4cyl 5spd), they look almost identical, except for the spring perches, instead of cutting and welding, can i just drop the new gears in the old housing? they look the same. just want to get some other input before i go wasting time on something that may not work, thanks!

thanks, probably a good idea. Im about to tear them apart and see whats in side anyways, ill be back with an update in case anyone wants to know if it works. i think theres a good chance that it will.

it works. everything is exactly the same. just had to swap over the pinion flange. i should be back on the road by the end of the week.
