Okay, if this has been covered, I apologize, I have been searching for ages (perhaps my computer skills are the sh*ts!!)

I am looking for a technical writeup on common engine swaps for my 82 4x4 king cab, with a stock Z22.

Possibly a KA24 (DE), or maybe I just rebuild the Z block and throw a KA24 head on with minor mods ?

If anyones done it or knows of a link, it would be most appreciated !

cheers

The KA head on the Z block has been done before. As with any swap getting the ECM will be important. I built a Z24 from the crank up for my old 81 720.

Z22 crankshafts are particularly useful in frankenmotors. You should research it.

The z22 crank has a shortrer stroke than a z24 crankshaft. I haven't done one myself, but threads exist about taking ka24 pistons and rods with a z22 crank in decked z24 block with an L series head, or something like that. People have brewed up various recipies for these frankenstien motors. You should google "naps-z frankenmotors". For what its worth.

Oh yeah, now I remember what it was about the z22 crankshaft, Datsun guys take a L20, and make an L22 with the z22 crank, because they never made an L22 from the factory.

z22 and l20 cranks are no different in stroke or size. SO, since an l20 crank is fully counterbalance people just put these into z22 blocks and run the L-series head. That way you can rev the crap out of the engine like you can an L-series. peace.

L20 stroke = 86.0 mm; Z22 stroke = 89.0 mm; Z22 crank IS fully counterweighted, and the z24 crank is not. If I am wrong, my name is Susie Q.
