First off, im new here so let me introduce myself, my name is tyler. this is my first datsun but i have some background with other cars. it is a 82 280zx 2 seater, non turbo FI L28.

kind of a long story:

i bought this car dirt cheap knowing that it was not in the greatest of shape and a salvaged title. a little rust here and there (to be expected from a 25 year old car in kansas) but other than that, everything looked straight. the one problem that i could see was that it would always bog down above 3k rpm. while i was trying to diagnose this problem i changed the distributor components (rotor and cap) and spark plugs and wires. this made it run fine in that higher rpm range, then it went back to bogging down. so i took out the plugs and they had heavy carbon deposits. this led me to believe that its burning extremely rich in the upper rpms.

then i got distracted with some other projects and when i got back to it about a month later, it will not start at all. it cranks but never starts. i cleaned off the deposits with carb cleaner but still wont start. i have checked the spark plug firing order and that is correct. checked the ignition coil and it looked to be toward the end of its life so i replaced that and still nothing. i dont have a pressure gauge to test the fuel pressure but im sure that its getting fuel. is there anything else i should try?

ps if it had a turbo ecu, would that cause it to run super rich in higher rpms, i assume it would, but would it even fit?

any help would be appreciated and let me know if you need more info. thanks!

it won't run with the turbo ecu, completely different systems

when you checked the firing order of the plugs you remembers taht the firing order goes countercloclwise from #1 on the distributor right?

a bad CHTS will cause it to run rich all the time nce warmed up, your motor I believe it's located in the lower thermostat housing

there si a little plastic box on the side of your distributor, I forget what it's called but it's a common item

timing, check the timing

MAS, could have a deadspot

try giving it a squirt of starter fluid and see if it fires up, if it does you know you have a fuel problem, if not then you know it's in the spark system
