I recently bought a 81 kingcab 720 Diesel 2wd with ~275k, engine runs strong although I'm looking for a new trans since this one jams in gear alot...

The body is in pretty sorry condition, and I'd like a 4wd, anyone know if it's possible to swap my engine/trans into a 4wd gas 720 body? Will the diesel trans bolt to the gas drivetrain's transfer case?

And anyone know where to find a new transmission, or where to get a rebuild kit for it? It's annoying when it gets stuck in 5th gear and wont let me shift...

it will go in fine, the trans doesnt bolt to the transfercase. . .they are "divorced" and have a small drive shaft between them. you will however need to swap EVERYTHING from the fuel tank all the way up all electrical connections and everything that they touch most go from one truck to the other.

I figured that would be the case on the electricals and fuel stuff, since they're completely different... but I can handle that. At least the diesel's is simpler!

What about the transmission... I read somewhere that the gas and diesel transmissions are identical, and somewhere else that the starter is on the wrong side on the diesel...
