I want to upgrade from a 81 turbo distributor to an 83 turbo distributor to get rid of the crank angle sensor. I'm not getting any spark at with the 81 setup so I thought I'd change it to the 83 setup. I got the 83 wiring harness, airflow meter, coil with the control module, and of course the distributor. I'm not sure whether I can just switch the distributor to make the setup work or if there is any other tricky changes I would have to make to get my car to start. The car used to start and I know it would start if it had spark. Please help me out let me know how hard or easy this woud be to do. Oh yeah I got the 83 turbo ecu too

'83 280zxt distributor has the CAS built into it like most modern Nissan distributors.

'81/'82 280zxt's should have the pick-up for the CAS right next to the crankshaft pulley.

If you use the '83 Turbo dizzy, you'll need to use the '83 Turbo ECU.

Also I think the turbo oil pump/dizzy shafts are different 'tween '81/'82' and '83's. So you might need the oil pump shaft from an '83.

(Don't quote me on that. Its been awhile since I've worked on a 280zx)
