hey guys....i finally save up some decent amount of cash ($800) and badly in need to upgrade my suspension/brake

Here's my current set up- KYB GR2/ Eibach Prokit- Ebay front and rear strut bar- VLSD (i know it's not suspension but...)- stock brake

Pretty pathetic huh? so let's get on to the subjectthe goal for my car is daily driven and drifting....everytime i try to drift my car i experience understeer from hell....

What would you do?

Brake pads will make the biggest diff so upgrade those.. and get new rotors/resurface urs as neccessary

also sway bars will make a huge difference so go for those too.. if u wanna drop ur car get the nismo s-tunes or some springs with kyb agx ( i got tein s-techs and kyb agx's)

for 800 u can do springs/struts and brake pads/rotors easily

if you're understeering you need to practice driving.

I hear Tein HE coils is good for daily drive and pretty damn stiff..

You can fish a set of nicely used for around 650~700

I had eibach springs w/ tokico struts. The biggest performance gain handling wise was when I bought all the misc suspension parts , I.E. sway bars (f,r), strut bars(f,r) , tension rods , under braces , sub frame bushings etc. You might want to also check your tires. Sucky tires understeer very well. I like Toyo T-1S tires on my stock alloys. And with all those minor susp mods I have gained about 20 more mph in my cornering speed. All of that stuff will run you about $800.

if you want to modify understeer, testing some different tires, getting some rear toe links would allow you to fine tune oversteer/understeer.

have you recently experienced it with the eibach with kyb or was it like that stock too. you can check out how your bushings.

to stiffen you can get the strut tower bars, stabilizers, underbraces and fender braces. the fender braces make a really big difference. i've never driven in a 240 with a fender brace but i've tried it in my friends integra before and after and it was nice.

I agree, a good set of coilovers is what you need. And honestly man, if you're like me, you have enough money to buy what you want, in time, it just takes some time to get the cash up... Well, its hard to save 800 or so on college/high school budgets, so what I would do is sell your current setup and purchase some really nice Coilovers or something. Then, buy the small things you can get paycheck to paycheck like bars and whatnot.

Are HE's really going to be that superior to, for instance, prokits and AGXs?

I'll probably be starting on my suspension at some point in the next year. I still haven't even ridden in, let alone driven, any 240 with any sort of substantially modified suspension....

ya he's are fantastic. ive had a set on my 240 and it was so stiff that there was virtually no body roll. i loved em. the thing with he's to are that u can adjust them to ride any way you want em to. i love em and ive got 3 friends who currently use them. im getting the super drifts by tein at the end of this month though.

i would also reccomend the cusco rear triangle bar. really good investment

I'll have to catch a ride in an HE-equipped car to see how stiff they are.

Might not matter though,I'm looking into getting an '87 V6 SE S12 as a daily driver, allowing me to keep miles off the S14 and make it's suspension as unlivable as I want, because I wouldn't be commuting in it.

Not from a personal experience but from what I have read back when I was looking for coilovers..

Its very stiff but on soft settings its not going to blow your kidneys on roads. I heard it takes a bit getting used to but really not that bad. Going straight from stock strut/spring to HEs might be a bit of a surprise

I remember riding my friends eclipse with coilovers back then and I drive a S14 with stock suspension.. man that thing was a harsh ride.. It sort of surprised me but the way that thing handeled was great.

Coilovers are really annoying for daily driving.

If you drive it daily just get a shock/spring combo and save some money for the toe rods, tension rods, some subframe spacers etc. When you get the rest up to spec maybe youll want them.

Go with what you have already. Maybe add good swaybars, do buy good tires and most importantly get a good performance alignment. The alignment makes a huge difference on how much your car understeers or oversteers.

OK guys..here's the Deal i came across. One the local 240 guys in my area (New Orleans) agree to sell me his "Almost Brand New" Ksports / D2 for $650. Here's the link to ithttp://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...=WDVW

Springs rate is 9/7. What do you guys think about this? Is it a good deal? I've been doing some research about this coilover and hearing mixed opinion about them (mostly love or hate). Can anyone here testify to this? Maybe a comparison b/w Megan Racing or HE's.....

BTW - I daily drive my car and go to track about once a month. Do you guys think it's worth it?

Hopefully it is a good deal...i really want this set

If this deal goes through. I'm most definitely sure my current set up will be for sale....cheap. It's KYB GR2 / prokit set up...haha i know it's crap but it's really great for daily driving. Let me know if anyone's interested, i'll let them go cheap, buyer pays shipping.

K sports are the ones guys bought here in the group buy.I heard there were some problems with them due to a inferior lubricant used in them. I wouldnt do it then. Thats also a pretty stiff ratio there for streets.

The reason you probably have a hard time with understeer while drifting is because you're car is WEAK!!!!! just like mine LOL!!! You're vlsd doesn't help your situation either. Get a real LSD for like $700 (kaaz) and you will surely notice a huge difference in (drift) handling.

What exactly do you mean by weak? If you're saying i'm not puttin enough power down to spin the tires then i think you're wrong here. I'm not saying my car's fast but i've already invested decent amount of money for power already (SR redtop w/ bolts on). But yeah my VLSD is crap, locks like s hi t compare to my friend's VLSD (we Brake Torque tested)...dunno why..it came with the car.

I would go after brakes and some suspension mods. Maybe 300zx or Q45 front setup..and sway bars..if u can find a hicas rear sway thats budget and is as thick as aftermarkets.also some tie rods as your stock ones are bound to give up after a while..they make a good difference. Go practice more and more at events, I've seen plenty of guys with n/a ka's do very well. My good friend ran his ka won events left and right with practice night/day solid. He started with a similar setup then went into acquiring a lsd.. after running a open diff for first season of drift events. He's now in cali semi-sponsored about to embark on ka-t for the the season. His car then and now is night and day..people laughed at it.. pictures are priceless..
