My shift knob will not shift completely back into park. I was cleaning my plastic panels, and I took them out and the shift knob as well. When I put it all back together, the shift knob goes into park but will not lock, and can simply be bumped back into reverse (regardless if the ignition is on). I tried everything I could think of, any ideas? Also the car doesn't need the brake pedal depressed to start, it goes straight to the ON ignition position and hit it again starts. :wtf2:

It sounds like the AT linkage just needs adjusted. I drove an old Chevy Blazer when I was a kid that did this and wondered what was wrong with the transmission.

Check out the NICO Club FSM area for a diagram and (maybe) some instructions on adjustment. It could also be that you just missed something when you were putting all the pieces back in place, another good reason to check over diagrams.

Welcome to NICO! :badger
