Looking to pick up a different engine/trans this week for my father's car. In a bit of a hurry to find out if this setup is compatible with his 78 Datsun Z, so any help is greatly appreciated.

78 Z Setup:
L28E Motor
4 Speed Trans
78 ECU and wiring harness

77 Z Setup:
77 L28E Motor
Mated to a 5speed that was an option for these cars

Will the 77 work worth the 78 ECU and wiring harness?
Anything specific needed for 5 speed swap? Different driveshaft?

Should be a direct swap.

Aside from the driveshaft, I don't see any reason you'd need to swap harnesses. Most 240sx's that are swapped retain the same harness / ECU, and that's 15 years later.

Are both cars manual trans? If so, I don't even think you need to swap driveshafts.
