I bought a 2007 M35 6 months ago. The only service that i had done on it was oil change and tire rotation. The dealership recommended the 65000 mile service which costs about $800. That is expensive. Any ideas on what i can do to avoid the cost but just get the main things done like coolant flush, transmission flush, air filter change..because my car is not responding like it used to...it hesitates now when i hit the pedal..i am open for suggestions...thank you.

Congrats on the purchase!

Look for a reputable independent import shop, or do the work yourself. Dealerships are WAY too expensive. For example, a transmission fluid change at the dealer is about $250, but only $120 at the local independent Japanese specialist.

Thanks for the quick reply! Yes dealerships are outrageous! Are those the main things that needs be done on my car at this stage? transmission fluid, and coolant?

I just paid about 400 for essentially the same thing from from a mechanic. It's not rocket science. Avoid the dealer!

when i look at my manual i find a way different mantiance schudule than i do when i go to a dealer
trust your manual if you sleep better changing fluids that the factory does not recommend changing have a non dealer do it
i buy a battery after 3 or 4 year otherwise i try to follow the manual on belts hoses fluids etc

Be sure to follow the factory maintenance schedule (or better)... just not at the dealer :gapteeth:

In your specific case, since you mention poor performance, in addition to the stuff mentioned before, I would replace the air filter, spark plugs, and battery at this time. I would replace the two belts, also, just because we don't know when they were last done.

After this you will be good for some time!!! Our engines don't need expensive timing belt services or anything exotic.
