Hey guys,

I went to look at a 74 260 yesterday as a potential first z. The big issue besides the usual rust is the idle. It will run and hold a high idle both hot and cold with the choke on, however, with the choke off, it will die. The PO said that he hasn't tuned the carbs in a while (read a few years), but could it really be that simple of an issue?

I appreciate the help.

Ryan

when shopping for an S30 buy the best chassis you can afford! these engines are pretty well bulletproof and cheap, rust repair gets expensive and fast! that being said, the stock carbs nt he 74 were garbage form day 1, most peple swap to earlier style carbs, add the DGV's or go for the tripples

as for not runnign with the choke off, it could simply be a clogged fuel port in the flat bowl, it's a firly common issue, some small piece of debris makes it's way into the fuel bowl and the su's feed form the bowl to the jet by gravity so they clog pretty easy, also the pistons on the su carbs can stick when not used for a prolonged period fo time so you'll need to make sure the su pistons are moving freely

Thanks for the reply. After a bit of thought, the car was too rotted for me to be able to pick up right now.
