hey guys, first of all, id like to introduce myself. ive been a long time member first over on the 240sx forums, and then i got myself a 92 300zx 2+2 a few years ago. recently i bought a 74 260z for my girlfriend. the car isnt too bad but can use some work. the body kit is molded on so ill be eventually removing that for a stock 240z look. it has a L28 with p90 head, altho still a 4 speed.

well when i bought the car i discovered the alternator was bad. after reading and doing some searching, ive decided an upgrade would be best for the car. however ive only seen writeups for 240s and 280s but havent seen one specifically for a 260z. my car is a late model 260 (build date sept 74) so not sure what the variation is with that. i am a bit mechnaically inclined and self taught working with my past cars but im a bit out of my water working on such an older car. any help or guides or links would be greatly appreciated.

they are all basically the same, the voltage regulator si the only real difference int he various s30 charging systems, be sure you upgrade the alternator output wiring if you step up to a larger alternator

you have a few options, you can run a 1 wire GM alternator but you'll have to modify the lower mount
you can run an internally regulator 280zx alternator but you'll need to add a diode in place of the regulator
or you can buy the plug and play msa alternator that comes with a diode in a socket you can just plug in
