In the NY-NJ area insurance companies like to rape you for some particular reason. I used to pay $3900 a year for my '94 Maxima and that was me being 18 and having an accident on record. Now I simply put the S13 under my father's insurance without me being cited on it and I'm paying $560 for 6 months. All I have to do is.... nothing stupid :-)And talking about Progressive: while it might be the cheapest insurance company around, they are the worst ****ing people that you can deal with. I had my accident with my mom's '99 Maxima and the a-holes raised our premium by 147% (yes I calculated it). In addition they wanted us to use cheap imitation parts from their own suppliers instead of OEM and wanted all the labor done at one of their own shops. I went to a couple of them and did not like the quality of the paint job in one while the other one was falling apart. Just my $.02 you get what you pay for....
And since you are bound to ask:The accident was not my fault. I was doing 37mph in a 45 zone while this lady slammed on the brakes with her Dodge Neon in the middle of the freaking road because she suddenly decided that she needed to get breakfast at McDonald's. I couldn't brake on time so I tried to avoid her when I realized there was a child seat in the passenger rear. Also this happened right by a BMW dealer and the right side of the road opens up and is literally paved with new Beemers. So I envisioned the bill and the damages from destroying 3 new 740's and I managed to just scrape her rear right bumper and take out a tailight cover. The cop showed up and was literally astonished that I managed not to go right through her rear bumper and gave me props. Also the lady happened to be speaking on her cell phone while driving and making the turn. Then the insurance companies discussed it and decided that it was my fault because I hit her from behind and I was 18, while she was 22 and had a child in the rear so she was likely to drive recklessly. No matter she was talking on the phone and left skid marks on the road from her brake. So there. That was my accident.
