720 shift lever threads

Howdy,

I would like to put a Hurst 5-speed shift knob in my '85 720, it says 3/8" -16, is there any chance of that working?

The nissan's thread size is m8x1.25 so it won't bolt right on but you can re tap the Hurst and add in the right size helicoil to make it fit. Look for a metric thread repair kit with the right size at your local auto parts store, drill out to the size the kit calls for, re tap with the tap provided in the kit, and install the insert, that's it.
Option 2 if the hole is too big to be drilled and tapped would be to fill with JB weld, let it cure completely, then drill,tap and put in an insert.
