I've always wanted a 240z and to me this looked like it could be a deal just wanted some opinions and what to look for when i do go to look at and test drive it since i dont have alot of experiance with this paticular model..

Body wise, rust would be the first thing I'd be looking for, especially underneath on the frame and such. 800 seems really cheap unless the car is really beat to death inside and out.

look for rust, if it's not glass or rubber it's a potential rust problem on these cars, I highly doubt that car is 16k original miles, if it is it's the deal of the century

the 5 speed is a swpa, they came with 4 speeds, just a matter of which one they swapped in

check the vin number, if it's 14k or below it's a series 1 chassis, ask for parts for a 70 molde and you have a better chance of getting the right parts, if the vin is 18k or higher it's a series 2 chassis ask for parts for a 72 and you'll have a better chance fo getting the right parts

Thanks for the info guys, and i just called him up and i guess there were a few typos in his ad.... apparently its a 72 with 116000 miles and hes telling me it came stock with a 5 spd.. is this true? Im going to look at it sat since its 2 hours away. he said he had it running and drove it for awhile about a year ago untill he began having heart problems. lol also he said the previous owner was trying to make it look like a z28 by putting holes in the hood as well as some different fenders. sat when i go i plan on driving it and taking some pics to put up on here for you guys to see so i can get some opinions before i go ahead and offer him anything.

5 speed not stock on a 240, the 280Z hood came with vents, maybe he just swapped on a 280 hood

look for rust on/in the following places:

(*)interior-pull carpet on floor back and inspect both driver and passenger floor pans

(*)engine bay-pull out the battery and inspect the steel battery support and the fender steel underneath that...look carefully for crispy rust there, its very common

(*)hatch-open hatch and inspect left and right corners of the hatch sill (its the panel where the latch/striker meet.

(*)exterior-rear corners of the rocker panels just in front of the rear wheels. drain holes get plugged and capture moisture here and rot the rockers from the inside out.

(*)glass-look carefully at all the edges of the front and rear glass where it seals against the chassis. when windows are replaced they can lead to the onset of rust in these areas

(*)frame rails under the car.

(*)trunk-spare tire well. leaky hatches fill the well with water, well then after that, its a disaster if left to sit for years of moisture and heat cycling

there are other places but these are the main ones i look at EVERY time i go to buy an S30
