Good Monday to all,Been looking at the c&d mag and at first didn't think about it then later it hit me. Why was the Q not invited to the $70K dance? I'm sure it would have placed in the top 3. Seems like the Q has been overlooked lately. Just a thought.Kev...P.S. I pick the name G35driver before I knew there was a web site with the same name. And no, I haven't signed on with them.Looked at the pics though.:D

A 2003 Q45 Premium Sedan with optional Chrome Wheels, Painted Splash Guards, Trunk Mat and Satellite Radio (XM or Sirius) rings up to a total of $64,335.00. Adding every dealer accessory not already on the car except for a Vehicle Cover ($300.00) and License Frames ($24.95 to $45.95) the Q tops out to $65,390.23. I guess Grasso can't be caught in a car that costs less than 70K. Damn snob. Except for the Mercedes all of the cars were 04 models. The S430 was the most expensive at $87,975.00 and came in last place in the comparison. I guess Infiniti didn't have a 04 Q available anyway as they are not scheduled to be released until January. I wonder if they will have the different headlamp assembly that is on the updated Cima? I hope that they have the smaller Rear View Camera Lense like the ones on the FX, LS430, etc, over the license plate instead of that big pimple looking thing next to it as the Rear View monitor is now standard on all 04 Q45s.

The reason it wasn't invited is simple.

A fully-loaded Q can now be bought in the $50K range.

Having said that, it'd probably still compete favorably in most areas with ALL the cars in that test. Helluva value for the money, IMO.

We just sold a perfect and totally LOADED '02 Q with 12K miles (off-lease from Infiniti Corporate) for $42K, with the factory extended warranty and 1 year of scheduled maintenance thrown in for good measure.

Oops! Read article. Did not read vehicle spec chart. The as tested price of the Jaguar XJ8 was only $64,595 from a base of $59,995. The estimated price of the VW Phaeton was $69,800. Close, but not quite 70K. Hell that's close enough. Gimme a Q with the Journey Package and I'll have plenty left over for some chrome 8-spoke 7.5 x 18"s and some Michelins.

Now do a 50k comparo and see where the Q stands. What are some other luxury sedans are in that price range?

I'm hoping to get my mom to buy a new Q. It'd be nice to have an old Q and new Q at the house. Unfortunately, I'd be jealous all the time.

Rarely, has Infiniti placed well in the Car & Driver comparisons. It seems like, when performance is the emphasis, Infiniti sends the luxury car, and when luxury is the emphasis, Infiniti sends the Hot Rod.

I still like reading the magazine, and enjoy the comparisons. I especially like the new format.

I personally, would like to see Car & Driver compare a "complete line" of cars from each manufacturer, to see which one is best.

I would think Nissan/Infiniti would shine.

or maybe the magazine is just biased, kinda like consumer reports was biased against the suzuki.

I mean, think about it. those guys dont really want a japanese car to beat out the European cars, do they?

They didn't have much choice in the G35 vs BMW 330 article.

Talk about redemption!

Correct me if I'm wrong. But I didn't see any stats in the c&d mag for the Q (Stats page toward the back). Could it be that they haven't officially tested the 2002 or newer Q? I checked r&t they did. You think c&d has something against Infiniti? I'm begining to think I shouldn't renew after the last mag. Anyone got any mag recommendations?kev...

In the Sept. 2001 issue of C&D, the A6 4.2 Quattro, 540i, DTS, Q45, S-Type 4.0, GS430 and E430 were in a $55,000 comparison. A base model Q did 0-60 at six seconds flat behind the 540i at 5.7 and the Lex GS at 5.9. The E430 also ran 6.0, S-Type at 6.3 and the DTS and Audi at 6.4. The 1/4 mile stats, 540i/14.3@97, GS430/14.5@99, E430/14.5@99, Q45/14.5@98, A6/14.9@95, DTS/15.0@95 and the S-Type/15.2@94. The BMW won the comparo with 95 out of a possible 100 points. Followed by the Audi 94 pts, Lexus 92 pts, Infiniti 90 pts, Mercedes 89 pts, Jaguar 85 pts, and Cadillac bringing up the rear with 83 points.

I wonder how that Q would do, now, with the reprogrammed ECU that Infiniti did. I bet it would eat the lunch of the others.
