oook. so im basically running the equivilent of a 6 step NGK, it's a bosch plug though, gapped at .044" I'm prettty sure i'm getting ignition breakup. It's still on a really ****ty tune, if you can call it that, very rich, but this only happens when I give it a sudden increase in airflow, once it happend in 4th gear around 3000 rpm, one time in 1st at 4000 rpm....really really doubt it's detonation since the car is pig rich and it's seeing a whole 5lbs at the moment. This 6 step was the best I could find locally when I had to get it running, but does anyone know of a 7 step that works? What about the gap? I get tons of people telling me .044 is fine, and some saying .030 or .035 is where it should be.

thaaaanks

that seems like a pretty big gap for a ka-t, maybe your blowing out the spark. try gapping a little smaller. wait for the guys that are good at this to tell you what would be best. i believe you are supposed to gap it as big as possible while still maintaining full spark.

I think Bosche plugs may get hotter with a higher number, while NGK plugs get colder with a higher number. You ought to consider that when you buy your plugs.

Not that I drive a KA-T, I have a ca, but I use NGK BCPR7ES-11's, one step colder than stock, on a mildly tuned engine. I just regapped the plugs from 1.1 mm to 1.0 mm and I realized a decent gain in power.
