Question for the injector specialists. On my 94 Q, can the #7 injector be replaced without removing the plenum. I know that 3,4,5 and 6 are underneath but I was wondering about #7.

thanks

Maybe... if you remove the AAC valve, brake booster hose, etc. I can see #8 pretty well, but 7 is going to be more difficult. Just be sure to lubricate the new o-rings whatever you do.

Can anyone list the injectors that can be replaced without removing the plenum on an early Q?

1,2 and 8. You need a long handled screwdriver for #8.

I need 6 and 8 replaced. I won't even try replacing 6, but is there a diagram I can follow to replace 8? I'm a computer technician, not a car one (yet). :pface

I talked to a mechanic at my local dealer who said he could replace #6 in 2 hours, but when I talked to the service department, they'll bill 7 hours labor regardless. Isn't that unethical?

Well, they bill what's called "Book Hours." A good tech. comes up with faster ways to do things, with the expectation that they'll work 50-60 book hours per 40 hour week. The factory plays a little different game for warranty work - they pay on "book hours" from a warranty book. You guessed it, they shave time off of the other book. Ethical? Maybe not, but if they charged actual hours the hourly rate would probably be higher.

Either way they're going to get the $$$$.

My car isn't under any warranty, does that make a difference? I guess not, theres always a loser when someones being paid for hours they don't work.

Since dealer technicians know what they're doing, they can beat competition, even at $90/hr, because it won't take them as long to get the jobs done. Customers get it done right and efficiently, dealer earns honest wages at appropriate price. Nobody has to be at the short end of the stick. That's how it should be done imo.
