Would 6x9 speakers fit in the back of my fastback? Possibly right behind the seats? Where could I place them with custom work? Or are they just a waste of money?

If they dont fit, I guess a sub will do.

if you have a hatch, you will have to cut out some of the metal, but not a lot cuz i have my interior stripped for a future project. and thought about doiung that as well. good luck. if i can get my friends cam i will put some pix on here.peace

I'm prolly going to get a sub to avoid the work with the speakers.

If you have a hatch cover, or find/make one, you could mount the 6x9s there and use the trunk as a pseudo box/airspace. That way you still have space in your trunk, and bass is decent with a good pair of 6x9s.

[I know this is anold thread...]

Has anyone actually put 6x9 speakers in the factory locations of a hatch? I was thinking I might be able to do it if I got some mounts for them and cut the holes bigger, but I want to know before I go cutting my baby up.

Thanks

Yes. Getting them into the factory metal brackets was little trouble. I have yet to trim the plastic panels that cover everything so they fit properly. They almost fit. I shouldn't have to trim much. Once the speaker covers are on, it shouldn't look abnormal... I think...

The previous owner of my car had 6x9's in the front. I just replaced them and found out that some metal was cut in the process but they do fit with spacers or an adapter plate.

Not a problem phuphyter. As long as it wasn't anything structural that was cut

A part of my car's soul was cut out in the process :weeps:

j/k I'm just worried about rust on the exposed metal when moisture gets in there, but that's easily prevented.

Yep, just coat it with something of your choice that prevents rust
