Exactly! Though, HP helps win races. I once went at it in my secret track with a Dodge Charger SRT-8. Boy, the SRT-8 engine sound is something to hear under WOT--unbeleivably beautiful--totally muffled my Stillen exhaust note. It sounded like the raw engine of a DC-9 taking off.
In a blink of an eye , the car was two car lengths ahead of me on the straight way--the SRT-8 is a monster. By the time we got to the curves, I began to gain and eventually passed him. This was just the first curve. But each time the road turned straight, here he was with the power and might of the SRT-8--I was always scared of the straight ways, becasue I knew if it was slightly longer in lenght, he would catch up. But, as usual, the road became extra curvy and so I continued to extend my lead until the very end of the secret track. I didn't have the horsepower but I had the handling. You can't ignore handling on a road course, and you can't ignore very good brakes as well, especially when you shift weight around.
I would rather take a detuned car, perhaps, 20 horses less on a road course, and have exceptional handling and response. I can't even begin to explain this phenomenon, as it sounds counterintuitive. But if you have at least one really long straight way on that road coarse, the situation may turn out differently.
The GC is not a drag car, even with superchargers or turbos--don't be surprised or angered if you get spanked on a drag strip with all the power adders on a G-35. G-35 is a car designed for road courses. The 135 is smaller and nimbler and slightly more powerful than an 03 and 04 G. However, with a modified 05 - 07 GC, I am not sure how much advantage 135 would really have.
I would dare to say that a good BMW driver might beat a G driver. But a determined G driver might beat the 135 ultimately, partly on the basis of the mechanical endurance and reliability the G uniquely has, especially on a long road race. I don't know how quickly the 135 gets tired after severe flogging, but I do know the GC never gets tired. Performance may drop a little with lots of heat being absorbed, but it never gets tired or show signs of giving up---this is one unusual and interesting thing about the G-35 Coupe.
These are just based on my experience on my secret track. It could be different elsewhere and different based on the driver.
