Hello,

I'm getting an 2008 Altima sedan and can't decide between 6M or AT. I had an '04 Maxima 6M and hated the way it shifted gears (grinded). Does anyone out there have the 6M? How do you like it? Does it shift well? How do people like the CVT????

Also can't decide on colour... Hmmm, thinking of Satin white on blonde interior? Any suggestions????...lol...

Thanks,

Alex

I test drove the coupe in both trans and the AT wasn't much fun, I got the 6spd. It would have been my first auto ever and I'm just not ready to give up shifting. I think it shifts very smoothly and I haven't grinded anything at all, although the clutch took a few days to get used to.

I got white on charcoal.

if you had a problem with grinding gears on your maxima i would say go for the cvt. you will never grind your gears again.also, if you drive in heavy traffic on a daily basis it's just a pain in the bum to drive the 6mt.

the 6MT is nice. I test drove the CVT and didnt like it. No shifting isnt fun. But I agree depends on your daily commute if you drive in bumper to bumper traffic all day. I havent had a problem with grinding the gears on mine. :shift

Thanks for the replies! Nah, we (fiancee and I) don't drive in traffic hardly ever.... I'll most likely be driving the new car and she'll take over my Mazda 3. She's just learning standard transmission, but were not worried. I'm sure she'll get the hang of it after she masters the clutch on my Mazda.

So everyone that has the 6M loves it? I took one out about 6 months and 8 million test drives ago and it seemed fine. As well, the 6M is $1200 cheaper in Canada!

Also, a question to anyone that has the Satin White. How does it look in the sun? Does it reflect nicely? I like the pearl and satin whites, but not the plain white. Just curious....

If you don't like the way Nissan manual transmission shifts...You are really going to hate their automatics............

The 6MT is fun to drive. You won't regret it.

The gearboxes in the newer Nissan's are a bit notchy at times. The gears are easy to find and require little effort to shift, its nice. The clutch is easy to manipulate, it just has a higher point of engagement than most cars. Requires getting used to. Some folks do a synthetic fluid change to make the gearbox smoother.

Get one, you'll enjoy it

I got a 2008 Sedan 2.5s Dark Slate with a charcoal interior. I got the CTV transmission because I only have two hands. I have yet to master driving, shifting, eating and talking on the phone at once.

Take out the shifting though and I'm good o.O

Only issue I've had with the 6MT is putting it into first while rolling up to a stop. If you are not dead stopped it doesn't want to go in to first. Besides that, not a bad transmission.

i would recommend going with the cvt. because at least in my area there are a lot of red lights, and it is a pain in the a$$ to shift that much. also the cvt has the sports shift so when you want to have fun you can put it in that mode. (much better than paddle shifters because paddle shifters get in the way when your turning. and it is not as fun) i find a perfect balance with the cvt when i am lazy and when i want to have some fun

+1 CVT

I have to say... I've owned 14 cars, 3 sports cars including a toyota supra turbo, an SUV and a couple motorcycles, and I for the first time decided to go with the CVT (an auto of sorts for the first time.)

Reason being, it is just more logical. My fiance and I got the Sedan over a coupe or the Z, both of which we could have had for a similar price, but the CVT just made more sense.

We wanted a plausible family car, and some room in the boot for luggage or storage when we travel. I am 29, she is 25, and we are getting married on june 28th, and we just wanted something that proved we were done messing around with illogical decisions and made better decisions.

We figured if we were spending 30 g's on a car, we'd want something we could fit a rug rat in etc etc. We got the 2.5 SL, black on black leather with the nav, and I have to say I have absolutely NO regrets. She lives 450 miles away and I make that trip twice a month and it is a pleasure to take the drive in, on the highway or otherwise.

the CVT is like butter. And the sport shift really is a nice addition. Ads some sport to it.

Anyway, like I said +1 for the CVT.

Hmmm, Decisions, decisions. I'll go test drive both this afternoon (if the snow storm stays away), and see what I think afterwards. I have a few friends that have Sentra SE-R Spec-V and they had the same grinding problem in the cold weather that I had with my Maxima (loved that car), just not the grinding gears...lol....

What does everyone think of the satin white on blonde leather???? Any other colour combos to think about? I know it's a personal choice, but I thought I would ask????

All my subarus were like that too (and my AC now also).. you get used to it after a while. Plus with the 3.5 you can do a 2nd gear pull out no problem!

It looks really nice together, but I don't like light color interiors for me, they seem to get way to dirty way to fast. -Kel

I agree. I am looking at a G35c with that color interior....that is a minus for me with 2 kids. If I were single..I'd be all up for it.....I am too anal to have that color..My kids will turn me in to Child Protective Services

We wouldn't have to worry about it getting dirty. It's just my finacee and/or me driving it.
