So I got an 89 hatch with a ka24e. When I started it, it revved up to 6k. Then white smoke started pour ing out. Figured head gasket went bad. So I'm changing that. I also figured my throttle sensor was making it rev high, or my MAF. well I asked around and was told that if the MAF was bad it would rev around 3k. I'm trying to make positive what I should do. Should I change the TPS? What about the MAF I was told if I take it off and it revs to 6k again that it's my ECU. I don't want to change my f***ing head gasket again. Advice, help, anything. Thanks.

I really don't think there's enough adjustment on the TPS to make it rev to 6K and I'm pretty sure it can't be installed upside-down but check it anyway. Plug should be facing foreward. Ckeck your throttle stop with the intake removed. at closed throttle, it should be closed all the way. If you see a gap, then adjust the stop so it closes.

If the throttle is closing all the way, check the IACV. it it's full open, you might get enough air for 6K. Auto or manual trans? If the MAF was bad it wouldn't rev past 3K. "Limp Mode"
