I've always heard they don't work, but have never actually tried one.

Yup figured as much. What about an ECU Flash after intake and exhaust that may help. heard after those the max Hp for the 1.6 is only 113 which for low Hp engines that is very noticeable, but this being my first under 160 Hp vehicle I dont know what that means.

I have the 1.8. I guess I noticed a slight change after adding the CAI, but I have heard that it is really noticeable after you do the headers, exhaust, and intake. We're still only talking bout a gain of around 10 HP though. After that an ECU flash could be beneficial, but I believe they're costly. nything for an extra couple horsepower i guess

Eh we will have to compare the 1.6 to the 1.8 more closely I guess. TC240 on nissanatlanta.org is on here as well not sure what his name is on this forum but his 1.8 is considerably faster than mine both being stock I wonder which engine would be more beneficial from the upgrades. We should find a mutual dyno day somewhere to try out the difference

They never work.

If you can just magically increase hp with no downside - car manufacturers will fall all over each other trying to offer the BOOST switch! It can be like the Turbo-Bass switch on the old Sony radios.

I know but being advertised on an official versa site and all made me wonder. But changing the air/fuel ratios on old carb engines offers big benefits, so I would think that changing the ECU's air/fuel ratio with intake and Exhaust should technically help even in a small way.

This is the way I see it.

Every manufacturer tries to out do the other in terms of MPG, hp and torque performance without ruining their reliability and failing the regulatory emission standards. If one can flip a switch and get all the benefits with no harmful outcome - why not just offer it standard. The ECU programming will add zero unit cost.

right I see it the same way the only thing is would they really do that for an entry level vehicle when the only thing to worry about is Room Price and MPG. Its not like the stock intake and exhaust systems are optimized in my opinion its kinda like an after thought

. Uh we already got the engine in here where do we run the intake?"

Maybe in the old Subaru Imprezas with unequal manifolds that create funny sounds - but modern economy cars are pretty well tested. The lower material cost doesn't really = lower drive-train development.

thought definitely goes into it, but its much more cost effective to use heat molded plastics versus stainless steel. Especially since SOME people of an older generation don't enjoy the sound of a CAI like we do :) or a catback for that matter..

got the DC today and really didnt realize that it was that noticeable and that effective put a hundred miles on her today just enjoying the sound. Its better than a Turbo sound to be honest.
