Yup, you heard me. '67 Mustang

My friend has had one sitting around for a while and his dad never started on it with him, so he figures he'll do it with my help. It's just the inline-6, but still a classic. Problem is, it doesn't start. He's narrowed it down to the starting motor relay or the coil, I figure we ought to replace both for good measure. The symptom is that he turns the key and nothing happens, not even the click of the starter. He's checked the starter, battery, and spark plugs, maybe more, I'm not sure. Anyway guys, know any other possibilities? I'm hoping to go down there Saturday night and try to get it working with him (we may be up all night, but oh well, that's the fun). Jeez, this will be fun if it works...

IF it's the original ignition switch, it could be at fault. That, or the car sitting for long enough, will drain battery to nil. Have the electrics been hacked up & redone(poorly)? Did you try to jump start? Did you turn on headlights to see if there is any power to any switch?

The uber-evil ex-fiance' lady had a 67. Can't say I have any fond memories of her or the car. She paid too much(didn't bother consulting me beforehand) and didn't bother to do research on maintenance or upkeep. I have no love for old Mustangs now.

Well hell, it's not my car in the first place. Besides that, it's still a classic, it's free (to me and my friend, who sorta owns it). On top of that, if it's still broken, it doesn't matter cause we both have cars that function just fine. It's also probably light as hell, so even with the somewhat measley power numbers (anyone got specifics? there were 3 6cyls offered in Fords that year and I can't get a clear spec on which one is in this car, it's a coupe, auto transmission (for now), red, is all I know). So, since it's rear-wheel-drive and light, and my friend lives in a mostly dirt road county, it should be good fun (wow, I sound like a redneck!). I'm thinking it's the ignition switch or the starter. Apparently (I may have my facts skewed, I'll try to get concrete info later tonight) it started 2 1/2 months ago... so... hmmm.... He replaced the starter relay (aka starting motor relay) and said it still wasn't turning over at all, no sound of anything, which makes me think that it's one of those two things, or he just has a messed up connection somewhere. Anyways, this should be a fun project for a while. He intends on cleaning it up, then doing a auto-manual swap, and then trying to improve the performance a bit (at least, I'm trying to convince him to). Now if I only truely understood carburators...

edit: I'll get pics for you guys tomorrow!
