Just dropped my motor back in the other day and had some problems at start up. I think it had to do with a little bit of everything like timing, vacuum, maybe even grounds. Car started but timing was rough, which I adjusted and got it pretty good. My problem is that after it starts in like 15 seconds the motor runs all the way to 6500 and stays there. I get no response from the accelerator and my throttle body stays closed so i don't think its throttle related. I tested my maf and I think its ok which leaves me with the IACV. I read plenty of threads about stalling and rough idle with the valve but nothing about super high idle. Anybody with a similar experience? Heeeeeeeeelp

Oh forgot to say that I can keep the idle at 2 to 2.5 if I unplug the maf, but i think that has something to do with the "fale safe" mode.

Somebody please shed some light on this for me.

Are you sure your throttle is closed? I wouldn't think you'd be able to get enough air into the engine to rev that high unless the throttle was opened significantly.

Yeah it def is closed. My first thought was my cable was sticking but thats not the case. Sound like we are kind of on the same page as far as air flow, cause the only other way for air to enter the motor is through the IACV which I guess can be stuck one way or the other.

sounds like a major vacuum leak. Check all your hoses, brake booster vacuum lines. is there play in your throttle pedal, take off the air intake pipe and make sure the throttle plate is shut, if not adjust the throttle cable

Thanks for the help gentlemen, ended up being a twisted throttle cable. Still having a little trouble with a smooth idle, and timing.
