I found a 1989 240sx that a guy is selling for $600...I'm just wondering what you guys think of the deal. The car is red with black interior, 1989 hatch, no rust, body is dent free. The hood is a little misaligned, but very minor. The interior is good, but shows it's age. The seats and seat belts have a tear here and there. The driver's side seat belt will need to be replaced. Test drove the car, rode pretty well for a 14 year old car. Brakes were recently done. There are only a few obvious problems with the car. First, the cable that opens the hatch and gas cap is broken. Second, the sunroof is a little loose. Third, the trans is shot. The last wouldn't be a problem, since I have an SR and trans sitting in my garage. I would just need the clutch parts to complete the manual conversion.

While we're on the subject of the manual conversion. The motorset that I got from JGY didn't include the lower trans harness, since I was told that I could convert the KA trans harness to work with the SR. But since the car has an auto transmission, would I be able to convert that harness to work with the SR?

What do you guys think???

Does it seem like you could talk him down any? I'm a cheap bastard so I'd offer him 300, and shoot for a 450 selling price :D

He was originally asking $750, I tried to go as low as $500, but he wouldn't go lower than $600, it wasn't his car, he's selling it for his girlfriend.

Ooooooh, now I get it ;) Oh well, probably still worth it, especially since you allready have the SR sitting in the garage :) It'll get you back in a 240 which isn't bad!

I did the auto to manual swap. I don't have a transmission wiring harness. I just have the speed cable hooked up. No speed cut or reverse lights. Cruise works fine. All I had to do was bypass the neutral saftey switch. The only problem is you don't have to press the clutch in to start the car. Nick

Also if you can pick up a car for that cheap you may always need parts incase of the worst happens. I broke my rear subframe and just pulled the extra parts off my parts car. Also I blew my radiator a couple days ago and had it install in under a hour. Thats if you have room to store a car. Nick

Ok prices on the auto to manual conversion. It cost about 300 plus when it was all over. I sold my good auto for 100 locally. I also cut the brake petal to save time and money. Looks just like a manual brake petal. It also took a full day to complete and a extra hour to bleed the system a couple times and to adjust the clutch.

250 - junkyard transmission, pressure plate, flywheel, manual drive shaft, clutch petal, rubber brake cover, hydro clutch line, used slave, used master, shift boot and cosmetic plastic piece. 30 - resurface flywheel and lighten a little20 - new clutch disc60 - new pressure plate10 - kit to rebuild clutch master20 - misc supplies and fluids20 - new slave cylinder

FYI. The SR brake pedal does NOT work.

-Don't ask me how much time I wasted finding out.
