Hey guys, i've posted in here before, i'm looking to get 300whp out of my rb20. I know the best turbo for my goals would be a 50 trim t3/t4, but i'm having trouble finding one that fits my budget, or any used ones at all. I already have a full t3 turbo(as in not hybrid) thats a 60 trim with .60 compressor a/r and .63 hot side a/r. I know someone on here is running the same type of turbo but i cant find him to ask, but is this turbo capable of my power goals? I'm assuming the compressor is too small to flow what i need but i have heard they can flow up to 500 cfm. Any insight?

It might handle the power not 2 sure....mines a .70 a/r and full boost is about 4k....

Is your 20 built? how much boost u plan on running?

I ran a t3t4 60 trim and it was at 14psi at around 4k as well. BTW I am now selling that turbo as I am upgrading to an rb26dett. A straight t3 will be choking uptop and you will get bored with 300whp trust me. Especially once a bone stock corvette or some civic with a mild turbo kit puts a whoopin on you.

yea, that's what i was thinking, the t3 compressor would be choking up top, but i want to know if it will support my goal or if it would be stupid to run it trying to get that power. I can't really find compressor maps on it, it's similar to a super 60 compressor which i can find maps for, but i'm not very proficient in plotting motors on maps or reading them either. I know another guy on nico ran the same setup but i can't find him, on youtube his name is baylymiley. So i guess what i would like to know, will the compressor support my goals? The hot side is perfect for the rb20.

Pretty simply put...no it wont. Im sure you can hit 350whp with it but the turbo would be spinning high levels of boost and creating high levels of egt. WHich makes it alot easier to detonate. This is why alot of honda guys using stock motors run large turbos. Large turbos make the same power with less boost and less egt in trade of a little more lag. But once your full on boost it doesnt matter any more.

... WHY are you using honda refrinces? I'm requesting a face palm asap!As for the turbo, this was just a little while ago: zerothread?id=429465 The HY35 was being considered for the rb20. Cheap, reliable, common, and it's a holset.

Because there is way more information under the forced induction section of honda-tech.com about running high end turbo setups than there is on most other boards combined(Except DSMs). They have been running high hp setups longer and more reliably then we been in the nissan scene.

And a holset hy35 is way bigger than even your average t3t4. But it does have awesome spool characteristics for a turbo of its frame size. Holset turbo's arent as common as before either with all the garage mechanics snatching them off ebay. But used garrett t3t4's can be had for a few bills these days. A 50 trim will spool as fast as a gt28r with the top end of a 2871r on an rb20det.
