I have a rb20 with a 60-1 turbo and n1 oil pump, feed line i used is a -3 line and fittings. Im having a problem where it smells like oil and on start ups it smokes a little or under hard pulls. since i have a n1 pump do i need to put a restrictor on the feed or not. If i do do you think i blew my seals out allready. I have only ran the turbo for less than 100 miles.

the 60-1 is a bit bigger than the standard t3. since you are using AN-3 line, you may not need a restrictor.

if you want to add an extra security:get one of these : http://www.atpturbo.com/Mercha...-OIL1

or you can make one yourself by weld shut the adapter and drill a hole in equivalent diameter.

Here the deal i bought the turbo used for 100 bucks but when i got it the thing was shot(shaft play and bent wheels). It had a restrictor on the feed but i was worried about it not getting enough oil and that is why the bearing failed. So i bought a new center section and everything is fine. Im running a n1 oil pump and that thing is putting out about 50 psi at idle and is putting out over 100 before the turbo even spools up and thats why im thinking it is getting too much oil. I have put to much money into the car allready and i dont want to buy another turbo when i could spend it on something else.

Hi, are you running HKS cast low mount manifold? I have the same setup with a T3T04E, using a NPT to AN-4 fitting no the turbo then a AN-4 90' eblow for my oil feed line. I have an NPT-NPT .065 restrictor, but I can't use it because the restrictor+NPT/AN adapter height is so tall that the nut on the AN-4 line hits on the turbo flange.. Just wondering if you might have the same issue on your setup. I like the idea of welding/drilling the NPT/AN adapter, I might do that instead.

If I were you I'd try to run the restrictor, the turbo doesn't need a lot of oil pressure to stay lubricated. I think I read somewhere it only needs like 20psi. I think 100psi is definitely too much pressure and probably is going to or already has blown your seal.

right now im running a npt -an fitting to a low profile 90 or 120 down to the block and dont have a issue besides i think it is to close to the manifold. the restrictor i have is a low profile 90 that goes from npt to an fitting so it should be sit lower. Im going to earls to get some **** today and put it on i hope i didnt allready blow out the turbo i will be F**king pissed.

i do recommend the restrictor.even the T76 or the GT series turbo need a restrictor, especially with the N1 pump.

I have a stock oil pump, but i'm running a T70 -3AN feed and -10AN return, and have no problems with to much pressure or anything.

That sounds like a little better setup, using the 90's. Where did you get the 90' elbow restrictor from? I thought it looked too close to the mani going straight to the oil port, so I went around & under the turbo near the water lines, with a 90 elbow off the block. I'd like to see pictures of you line, mani & DP setup if you have some! Doing my DP this weekend hopefully, with any luck it can be started next week.

I'd run the restrictor if possible, are you sure the last turbo seized from a lack of oil pressure and not something else? Do you have a turbo timer on your car? Ever experience low pressure or blockages in the turbo lines? Hope your turbo is still in good shape! GL

What i mentioned before is my current setup with no restrictor. I went to earls and got some more fittings and i got a restrictor at a big turbo place in indy. Im going to post some pictures up here in a bit of what im working with. I have a -4 line instead of a -3

This is the oil restrictor that came on the used turbo i bought and one of the fittings i got at earls. the 90 has a jet pushed in the end of it. With this setup i should be able to keep the oil line closer to the center section instead of the manifold.

Here is the restrictor adapter i bought today at the turbo shop. It has a -4 an male fitting on top that has a oil on the bottom to seal it. The bad thing about this is that it positions the feed line close the manifold. i have a 120 degree fitting on my current setup that i would be using on the adapter plate. Oh yea another thing the plate is only drilled to .040, which i think might be for a ball bearing setup. I think i might have to dill it to .065 or .070 but if someone knows what it should be let me know.

I also bought this flame gaurd shield to wrap the line in to keep the oil cooler going into the turbo
