6 speed standard transmission whine

I have a 2009 Versa S with the 1.8 L and 6 speed transmission. I hear an audible whine from the front between 30 to 60 MPH. I hear it in several gears. I hear it best in 5 or 6th gear at 40 MPH, close to 2000 RPM on engine. It is also more noticable under a light load, not under heavy acceleration. It is loud enough to hear above the heater fan or the radio. There is a second noise, also under light load in 2'nd or third gear. Sounds like loose balls rattling. Dealer says it sounds normal- not interested in fixing. He is offering to trade me out of car. Otherwise I like the car. The noise from the front was not there when the car was tested or until aboout 800 miles, now we have 4400 miles. I am not sure if the noise is from the transmission or dfifferential. It dooes not act like something resonanting. Does anmyone have any ideas oor suggestions??? Also, how do you get a dealer to try and resolve the issue. The noise is very annoying and possibly doing damage.

I would go to another dealer if you can. Or call Nissan directly.It doesn't sound like that would be normal to me. I have the 1.6 with a 5spd and it does have a very faint whine in 1st going very slow but it doesnt sound anything like what your talking about. It isn't louder then the radio or anything and I dont hear any rattle.Sounds to me like the dealer doesn't want to deal with it and is trying to get more money by getting you in another car.

Yep... I get it too. Dealer said it was normal.

I did get use to it. Figure it was normal. That said, after about 9K miles.... it has seemed to quiet down some. When it was new it was loud.

I have a 2009 S. Mine has the same whine especially at 40 in 5th or 6th gear. it seems most noticable at steady speed. goes away when accelerating. I find it annoying also. Haven't talked to dealer about it. Car has 2300 miles. Will see if they will check at next service

My MT whines at deceleration also in second gear with very light gas. I think it's just how the transmission is.
