Is this at all possible. I know with the 5 speed sr's you can swap the bellhousings with the KA's pretty easily, but does the 6 speed have the same story. It sounds like a long shot but its worth looking into, because i will soon have a built ka24det and a speed would be great.

thanx

can be done, but the 6 speeds are crap, s15 blacktop owners usually toss em

I think the speed sensor is in the rear, I dont know if you can swap that also to make it work. I too wanted to swap to the 6-speed but just for kicks, I dont have anywhere enough power to break it.

I was just thinking about this the other day. But I have heard the 6-speeds aren't very strong also. So what how much horse power can these trannys handle before it gets risky?

I dont know how much they can handle but I looked into it and found out they are weaker because the gears are thinner so they could fit 6 gears in the 5-speed sr bellhouseing and that the 6th gear is pretty much worthless because it doesnt add and top end and you have an extra gear to shift into now. So yes it would be cool to have 6 gears but its not worth changing the diff and drive shaft while doing it.

yeah, the r34 gtr is a 6 speed getrag, but you would need a large sledgehammer for the transmission tunnel, and it probably weights twice what a ka transmission does.

and since it is a getrag, i believe you cant swap the bellhousing/front case like you can do with nissan trannies.

as you can see, with your 4.08 final drive and the .793 6th gear, even the gtr 6 speed wont be any good.

t56 is a tremec unit. its the transmission in corvettes [transaxle setup], camaros, firebirds, and vipers.

I would like to end up with a 6spd transmission just for fun factor more then anything but i haven't found any real information on possibilities besides the SR15 engine swap...

When driving a KA on the freeway it feels like it needs another gear to me because my rpms are a little high. Maybe I should go 65 to bring the rpms back down :-P

My old 93' Pontiac GT Grand Am I use to sometimes try for another gear then remember I wasn't in a Vette. If anybody was with me they'd always ask me wtf i was doing. lol

I still want to find a 6spd transmission for like a redtop or something.

or you could just get the O.S Gilkin gear set for your transmission. Still not a 6 speed but definitely gives you a better ratio

the US 6 spds seem to run out of tac to quick in the lower gears. in first gear your shifting before your half way through an intersection [Z car, max] I think it sucks. If these jap trans are the same I dont think its worth it.

6th gear on about 75% of cars that have them aren't for top end, they are for overdriving the drivetrain so that engines like a 346cid LS1 can get almost 30mpg on the highway. It's a cruising gear.

And all this noise about breaking transmissions... it's all about how you abuse it. There are TONS of people that have junked the 5-speeds ... ESPECIALLY the S13 5-speeds from the CA.
