Could you share with us how made this combo work? Did you design Adapter or what was the process in order to get the z33 transmission to bolt up to the vh45?

Z32-5 or Z33-6 speed?

Elwesso on this forum has done his Q45-Z32 5-speed swap, there is another in progress in the Q45 section or are you looking pay a shop to have it done for you?

Car: lots of unique hot rods, and customs, with modern engines, and a good truck to pull the trailer.

I'm in Tx but have cars coming from South Africa, and Neatherlands, doing # 17 of the Z32/VH45 swaps, done a few other body styles too, RX7, 350Z, and a 48 chevy.

3500 turnkey, minus the clutch/flywheel, we leave that up to the customer to choose their options. Most go lighten'd with a 6puck, works well.
Not doing kits or parts anymore as some people are not smart enough to install them.
Not trying to sell, just informing and responding to the Q.

Elwesso. I'm interested in a plate. I have the motor transmission and clutch set with flywheel. Contact me at [email protected]. planning on starting the build in a couple of weeks. Look for my build post soon.

Guys, need a little help...

JTMROCK, I have been following your build in hopes to doing the exact same thing and dropping into my S13. Here is my setup so far:
VH45 out of 91 q45
CD009 6-spd out of 07 350z
z32 flywheel 91 300z NON-TT
z33 clutch / PP 07 350z

Had the engine on it's nose, fit the flywheel and found longer flywheel bolts (can't use auto bolts of course)... Fit pressure plate to flywheel. Bolt holes lined up but had to drill new(er) pilot holes... THEN clamped up the starter and the gears are close to 1/2" - 1/4" off... I have read up that both Q45, z32 n/a and other models have the same teeth (124) on them so they should be interchangeable... RIGHT??!?!?

JTMROCK, I know you removed the q45 ring gear and put it on the z32 flywheel but WHY??? are the gears lower set on the flywheel, which would correct this issue??? I am thinking of grinding down the starter flange that connects to the engine, but still not 100% on it working... Any idea's here???

The z32 and q45 flywheel gears are not the same size, this is why he put the q45 ring on the z32 flywheel. If you are wanting to use the q45 starter, you must use the q45 starter ring.

the z32 na flywheel has the same od and tooth count as the q45 flexplate.
some material will need to be removed from the back of the flywheel to allow for proper starter engagement.

Sorry, but this is not true!!! z32 and q45 are exactly the same!!! The only difference is the point at which the starter engages the ring gear. For the z32, the starter is mounted on the transmission, behind the flywheel. So it engages the flywheel from the back of the car. The q45 starter is mounted to the engine, in front of the flywheel. Just the opps of the z32, it engages the flywheel from the front of the car. The simple fix is to heat the flywheel up, beat the ring gear off and quickly put it back on the flywheel. OR I have also read a couple people have used the Auto flexplate and then mounted the flywheel right behind it. Doing this would kill the reason to have to send off your bellhousing to get it resurfaced, as the added distance of the flexplate vs the added distance of the adapter plate are near exact... (I for one have NOT tried this, and cannot prove this point...) I can however prove my first point as that is how I have the motor to transmission setup right now...

We cut right behind the bolt flange of both the q45 auto and z33 transmission, and then alum welded them up...

STILL have plenty of work to do, but right now the biggest question is do I need the bracket that is shown in the pic below? The extra link for the transmission??? I have seen people cut this but I am not sure...

punch the knock pin out and move the shifter cup to that location...you'll have to get a bit creative to make it work but that is the best way to do it.
if you do it right it will be dead center in the shifter hole.

If it works go for it. What i know is the Z32 ring gear is facing the wrong direction for the q45 starter and has to come off. Whatever i measured a couple years ago said that they were not the same diameter, the difference was small but significant, and i can tell you once you put a q45 ring rear on a z32 flywheel, its not coming off, the inside diameters are different. So q45 starter ring on a z32 flywheel will give you just enough engagement to start the car. Grinding the back of the starter mount or shimming the starter ring are both good ideas for increasing starter engagement and reliability and longevity. If you had access to a big enough lath, turning the Z32 starter ring down to about 3mm while still on the flywheel would make a pretty sweet shim for the Q45 starter ring.

In regards to the bell housings, skipping the milling process is a major mistake, but i hope you get lucky. Out of six degrees of freedom it looks as though you have only constrained one, linear Y axis(plunge depth). Machining the bell housing constrains the rotational X and Z axis(leaning), where the rotational Y axis doesn't matter much. Machining also prevents any mishaps with linear Y axis(plunge) during the welding process. Leaving only the linear X and Z axis to be constrained by what every you set up to position everything for the welding process.

In 2008 iifc, I helped Ranlet put one of these on the back of an older Subaru block without machining the X and Z axis out of the equation. The input shaft ripped the splines out of the clutch disk later that year. If there is any deviation from 90 degrees in input shaft vs clutch disk, then the transmission input shaft splines contact the leading and trailing edges of the clutch disk splines and cause binding and cutting, psi becomes massive.

good luck, Its pretty damn sweet to see another Z33 6-speed stacked on a VH block for welding.
