So i got let go from my job and have had some extra time so i got to thinking about putting my system from my old honda accord into the my 91 240 hatch. When i first got my 240 i was took one look and said no way in hell am i getting my 6 1/2 inch components ne where in this car. so i bought 4 Infinity 4x6 bicameral plate speakers to compensate for the horrible stock system. anyways with the extra time on my hands i took apart the interior to see what i could do and i came up with this. BTW interior is not put back together due to having to heat up and remold the repanels over the Alpine Type- R's because they touch.

FRONT: Boston Acoustic SL65's

Middle (Rear Passanger Seat): Alpine Type R 6 1/2 inch component speakers

Rear Hatch: Infinity 4x6 reference plate speakers

And the Power Source is a Alpine MRP-F450 now discontinued.

...why didnt you put the components in the front?? is there really any benefit to having 6 speakers? im guessing you spliced the 4 rear speakers to the 2 outputs on the headunit?

Are you on dope? I have 4 RS kicker 6.5 in components w/ crossovers in my hatch. All have modified stock mounting locations w/out rattles. I don't know if you have ever seen the magnets on some RS series speakers, but they are HUGE. I'll post up pics ASAP if you need proof.

Those are 6.5 inch bicameral Boston Acoustic SL 65'sAnd no the speakers dont get in the way of anything in on the doors.

I've never enjoyed having my components up front for one main reason. THe bass is so low on the floor it doesnt sound as good as having the woofers in the middle of the car and higher up. but its all personal preferance. and no there is no benefit i just thought it would be something fun to do since i have tons of audio parts. and no i actually spliced the front bostons with the rear infinitys because the Alpines require the most power for RMS. and i spliced them back at the amp actually.

You must not have read very carefully. i THOUGHT when i first got my car there was no way in STOCK mounting points. and if you would read further it says that i took apart the interior to FIND mounting areas. and the RS look almost the same size maybe smaller than the TYPE R's. its hard to tell without seeing them in person. But either way i dont care which speaker is bigger it doesnt mean anything if you arent running the right power to it. and it could have a s***ty XMAX. BUT I HAVE NO EXPERIENCE WITH THEM. they could be awesome.... I had a pair of Alpine Type X 17 pros which were about 400$$$ those were the second best i have ever heard besides a pair of HERTZ audio hand made out of germany.

Thanks. I have the front door panels back on and have had the whole rear inteior in since the infinitys fit in the stock hatch points. but still having trouble with the Type R's

there is a posted picture of them. they are the ones in the middle the ones in the rear rear hatch rear rear area are the infinity 4x6.... in the middle are the 6/12 type R's and in the front are the 6 1/2 Boston's. and hopefully i can heat up the rear seat pannels enough to have them maluable enough to move out about half an inch.

if you think the stock system on 240s is bad look at a thirdgen camaro...

stock from speaks are 4x6 iirc and they are on the dash in a hard to get to location... and the rears are actually decent being 6x9s and then good luck finding a decent box to fit in the rear hatch area...

I was going to make a set of kick panel enclosures b4 i got rid of her. 6.5" components mounted in the kick panels aimed up and across the car...

if you are wondering what a kick panel is, it is the part that is where the drivers side dead pedal/ fuse box goes and the panel that covers the ecu on the pass side.

Then again with fiberglass and MDF you can fit anything in anywhere..... BTW hatches FTMFL the coupe really has the best end when it comes to mounting speaks

'm still curious.... the middle speakers it seems that you are going to just heat the covers and leave it like that? the plastic trim piece will block alot of sound.... id look into cutting the trip piece flush with the speaker and then installing the speaker cover that came with it...

You should try fitting some Hybrid Audio 7" midbass drivers in the front doors while maintaining the OEM grill and proper fitment.... it was a treat

Good luck with the project! Give me a shout if you ever need anything.

The grills are easy to get just go to a car stereo shop..they have a lot lying around..if Broadfield sells speakers he might help u get some grills for free or give u a good price.

i will check with broadfield if he has some extra some going in the trash to give. i dont really want to go to stereo shops because they always give some high prices.

all you did with the rear panel was just basically cut it out the hole and then added in the grill?

Yes it was easy to do it, just be careful when u will cut it has to line up with the speakers..b4 u install the speakers it will be good to get some sound deadening material.

I have a few pictures in my "build" thread, and a lot more on this thread for ebay adapters ($20)Its a long project, lot of trimming of the plastic cover.

zerothread?id=474541

More detailed information at the bottom of this thread, you will need a hacksaw, at least that's what I had to do

id cut the hole for the speaker in the panel and then mount a speaker grill on the outside of the panel so it looks cleaner and more factory

im a fan of it i dont have the tool to do it... i try to buy the right tool as ill prolly use it again....

you could use the template for the speakers to make the hole big enough...

id go just to the inside of the speaker grill and then mount the speaker grill to the panel

I prefer something like this..... looks cleaner than a grill slapped on the front. Of course it's going to take a LOT more fabrication than screwing a grill on the front of the panel. This is in a S14. Nice thing is you can make it flush and whatever shape and size you want.

the speaker grill will be bent if it was mounted.... and if you ahve looked at the Alpine Type R speaker grill in general they stick out hella far. they arent flat... i have an s13 and they have a nasty curve on the panels so it will be rough to mount to the panel
