I read somewhere that there was an option for the S14 to get a 6 speaker stereo. Does anyone here have this? Where are the speakers placed and are there any differences in speaker size?

yes, 6-speaker, (160 watt?) stereo's were available. my '95 has it. you ave two tweeters on the a-piller, door panel speakers, and rear-window speaker. you have a factory amp in the trunk as well. the only problem about this system, and maybe the other on as well, is that the part of the amp that powers the front 4 speakers messes up. mine only has sounds comin out of the rear 2 speakers, which are shot. i'm gettin a new system sometime anyway so i don't care that much. but my friends '95 SE like mine has that same problem.

Are the rear-window speakers 6.5" or I think I heard something about 6" x 9" speakers in the back.

6x9's won't fit unless you have a custom setup. i think the factory ones are probably 6.5" or somewhere around there. they ain't big

I am too lazy to take mine out and see what size they are, but I think they are 6.5" in the doors and in the rear deck too. They might be 5.25" in the doors though, not sure. Anyone know?

theyre all 6.5, mine are working fine. they worked fine in my 95 too. only thing i hate is the tweeters are real small so its hard to find something to replace them. i had to just mount ome more tweeters somewhere else.

instead of replacing the OEM tweeters, i thought about just trying to find some good 3-way's for the door and the rear window. depending on how it will sound and how much money i have left, i might get like one 10" sub or sumthin. a friend could sell me his audiobahn 12", never been used. but i don't have the money for it right now:(

2 things, three ways are pretty poor except for in the back. I wouldnt get 3 ways even in the back to tell you the truth. I would replace the stockers w/ an componet system or coaxle. No tweeter on a 3 way will ever come close to the quality of a componet or a plate speaker(almost the same thing). As far as audiobahn goes have you heard them? they are an aquired taste.

for real? hmm. seems like i heard 3-ways were pretty good to replace stock stuff with. what kinda tweeters would you recomend, since the OEM's are so small? whats different about audiobahn sound?

ive had an audiobahn 12 before, and i liked it except that you have to put alot of power to it. they hit low and deep, youll definitely feel it, but theyre not real good for high and loud bass, low and high is good though. it kinda depends on what kind of music you listen to. but if the speaker holds 2000 watt max, then youll probably need about 1200-1500 watts goin through it before it really sounds as good as its supposed to. but i would probably go witha component system. i just got the ma audio competition component system and hooked it all up to the factory amps, and it sounds bad a**, alot of bass. but 3 way 6.5s dont get alot of clear bass, they distort a little, plus the tweeters dont get near as much power as they would in a component system. but if you just get 6.5 bass drivers and tweeters seperate without a component crossover the tweeters might distort because it will be sending bass through them, so i would go with component systems. go check out http://www.carstereoconnection.com, they got alot of good systems at good prices.

I know alot about car audio, not about performance thats why i have to jump on one of these threads when i see it....

Three ways just seem muddier to alot of people, as far as a good set of componets to look into are the infiniti kappas/perfects(for the high end crowd) Focal, and mb quarts. I personally have the infiniti kappa componets in the s13. Slimmy covered the rest of my feelings on three ways(not lovin' :) )

Ill just hit the audiobahns. Alot of my friends have them and one of my friends is an audiobahn dealer infact so ive heard enough of them to make an oppinion on all their products. Audiobahn subwoofers are Loud and Unclear. We have benched some hellacious spl numbers w/ them but cant understand a damn word when just listening to them. Also if an audiobahn speak says its 2000 watts, i dare you to put 2000 to it. It'll fry in no time. Audiobahn amps also have a wattage problem, they dont put out nearly what they say. getting off subject. The speakers are very muddy. If you listen to alot of southern rap its not horrid, but other rap hip-hop rock electronica they are pretty bad on. but this is just my oppinion i say you go to a stereo shop and listen because all it takes is the right box size/port size to make ne sub sing.

yeah, i wouldnt go with audiobahn. ive had two different types of 12's from them, and wasnt satisfied with either one. but like instant rice said, all it takes is the right set up. what excactly are you looking for as far as sound? something deep thats gonna shake your car apart, or somethin thats gonna be loud and have more of a hit then a rumble? also is space and weight an issue? tell me waht your really lookin for, im sure me and instant rice could come up with some ideas for you as what to get.

jin n juice how is that headunit working out? i was going to get that but i got the kenwould, umm mp7019(i think) instead.

O yeah jin mixing sub size is not wise at all. You get backround noise supposedly and clipping signals. this isnt from first hand experience this is just here say.

InstantRice...The headunit is very nice. Its SN ratio is 105db, and as you can see it produces very clean signals to my speakers. It has many useful features and it looks very clean also(NO OEL display).

As far as mixing sub sizes, I am planning to use the 8s as my mids (with crossovers). They will be installed on my rear panels. And for the sub, I am just gonna go with one JL 12 in a sealed box. I heard one of my friends system (similar setup), and it sounds very very nice. He dropped around $10,000. Maybe I shouldn't expect the same quality.:(
