Hi Ya'll,

I just got a note in the mail today from Nissan saying that my 2010 Rogue is ready for it's 6 month service. I haven't even taken her in for an oil change yet(only has about 2200 miles as of today and I bought it in early March). I was wondering if the 6 month service is necessary right now since my mileage is so low. Also, about how much does the 6 month service cost?

According to note it states that 6 month service includes: oil and filter change, rotate tires, inspect brake parts, inspect exhaust system, inspect propeller shafts, inspect steering gear and linkage, inspect axle and suspension parts, inspect drive shaft boots, inspect steering linkage ball joints, inspect front suspension ball joints.

Just seems, with the exception of oil change and tire rotation, that it's just a lot of inspections and looky loos. Seems to me that I shouldn't have this done until I have a few more miles on the Rogue.

What do ya'll think?

Thanks!

Personally I would not bother with the 6 month service and instead just get your oil changed which is all that is required for your first service to stay within warranty requirements. I just bought a new Rogue and plan on changing the oil at around 1,000 miles due to all the slivers of break-in metals that are bound to be in the oil but that is just personal preference.

Just change oil and filter to stay within the warranty limits, nothing else is needed for a so few mile car.

Do it yourself (cheaper) or ask the dealer or a mechanic to do it with any conventional oil.
Mark your calendar to come back in 6 months.

Have a good day.

Most of those items should be included in the regular oil change package, they aren't charged out seperately ex. inspection suspension components, drive shaft boots, etc..

Inspecting the brakes and rotating the tire, now that is just a cash grab. Tires should be rotated about every 6000 miles (10,000 km), to rotate them at 2000 miles at the same time as the very first oil change is laughable. This is not Nissan recommending this service to you, this is your dealership and it's not right.

The best advice is to just refer to your maintenance manual which comes from the manufacturer, and I've always been told to follow the mileage schedule rather than time for most items with the exception of coolant and oil. If you do this, you won't need anything more than oil changes for a long time, and like I said that long list of "check" items is included with the oil change package, with the exception of more major items such as brake inspection.

Not worth it. You're not even due for an oil change yet. The manual clearly says there is no requirement to perform the first oil change prior to the normal interval (3750 miles for severe service, 7500 miles for normal).

It's the warranty question. Can your claim be denied because you did not follow the prescrbed maintenance schedule, as in "I'm sorry, but we cannot cover your claim because you waited 6 months to get your first oil change--even though your car had only 3,750 miles on the odometer at the time. As you know, it is whichever comes first!" I don't know the answer to that question--and I hope I never have to find out. And I do not recall seeing the disclaimer (3 month service not necessary) noted in the previous post, although I will search my manuial for it. And how about subsequent services on a low milage car?

If you were to run it completely dry and seize the engine AND hadn't changed the oil ever, there might be a warranty issue. Otherwise, its all scare tactics to get more of your money. Keep in mind that by law, you do not have to have any services performed by the dealer, ever. Only warranty work and recalls.

The first oil change comment is on page 9-5 of the owners manual. You don't say what your usage is. You are probably on the 6 month/7500 mile oil change schedule. I've never heard of anybody making an issue of months vs. miles except for timing belts (of which, the Rogue does not have one).
