I have read that it takes some fabrication to get 6.5's into the J30 front door. Does anyone care to share what they used to do it? Pictures would be great also.

I am not a stereo person, but I did run into someone who took the Nakamichi speakers off a wrecked first gen Lexus GS300 and put them in his J30 with no or little modification. I believe the speakers are the same size, except the Nakamichi's are more powerful.

i did it and it was pretty simple. The main thing you need to watch out for is make sure the new speakers arent too deep. Im not sure how deep it is but my kappa 60.5cs fit in fine. If the speakers are too deep you will end up hitting the bar that the window slides down into.

As for fitting it in there i just got a piece of plywood (you would probably be better off using MDF board or something like that). Then i measured off the size of plywood i would need to cut so that it will fit over the entire opening and over the edges in order for me to screw the plywood into the existing screw holes. After that i just measured the size of the speaker and cut a hole in the center of the plywood and dropped the speaker in and screwed it down. Then take the whole thing and attach it to the door using the existing holes and screws.

How thick wood did you use? My 6.5 is a little more than 2" mounting depth. I want to make sure I clear the window glass.

Also, did you put the new speaker higher up than the existing speaker location (to get more depth), or did you put it in about the same location?

Any pictures :) ??

Thanks! That would be VERY helpful. I was going to tackle it today, but once I got the door off, a few choice words were used. I wish Bose made it easy like the backs were :) My 5 channel amp gets here tomorrow, so I will research and try to tackle it next weekend. Time to get out the Jigsaw!
