So for the past year I've been running some 6.5" MB Quatz components in the fronts and a 10" Kicker Solobaric in the trunk. And lately, I've been wanting more trunk space. So... what I had in mind was to get rid of the Kicker and use the empty holes in the rear deck.

I know they make 6.5" SPEAKERS, but do they make 6.5" subwoofers? If not, are they any suggestions or alternatives for some bass that I'll be lacking without the sub.

Thanks

note: car is an '89 240sx coupe

Yep, there are 6.5in "subs"

Check out Adire Audio. Their 6.5 mids move a LOT of air and are capable of producing decent bass

me...I was recommending some 6.5" coaxials for the rear because I've never seen 6.5midwoofers before until I saw your Adire post.

which also, I did come across these. http://mobile.jlaudio.com/prod...id=23 If you listen to rock music and things similar, it should be fine, but for rap/hip hop, subs this small arent as capable as producing the deep bass and low frequencies that a larger sub is.

rap and hip-hop don't usually contain much low bass. Usually it's all above 40~50Hz with a little going down to ~30hz, but not much

Thanks for the replies. My friend suggested I go with JL also, so I think I'm leaning towards them. Still open to other suggestions of course.

Next question though, somewhat n00bish. Because these are subwoofers, would I need a box or enclosure for them? Or would putting them in the stock location, they rear deck, be ok?

And finally, I've been searching for Adire Audio and JL online hoping to find a deal of any sort. Only thing is... I can't seem to find any sites that sell either. Can one of you guys help guide me in the right direction to online shop for a 6.5" sub?

Thanks in advance guys!

As far as the box goes..the jl and the adire are both setup to be free-air systems I believe, meaning that the trunk itself acts as an enclosure for them.

I searched around for a few minutes and found this place. http://www.cartoys.com/Default...ofer/ $89.95 seems like a decent price.

Your friend has fallen victim to JL's mass marketing machine. You must help him out of it...The only way is to...kick him in the nuts, then knee him in the head Hopefully that'll get it into his head.

BTW, JL is fine, but they're way overpriced.

Not really noobish, even experienced people will ask this question if they come up to a different situation such as this one. Not many people choose 6.5in subs in the stock location. That's not to say that there's anything wrong with the 6.5 method.

Now to your question. The documentation that comes with the "subs" will indicate the enclosure it's designed for

OMG! The sensitivity is rated at 82.3dB! OMG, OMG, OMG, how can they even still be in business! Up until the late 80's, if an audio company had come out with a product like that they would have gone out of business because of the horrible reputation that that would cause!

Just for a reference, 3dB increase requires a doubling of power.

Thanks guys. From your guys' posts I think I'm leaning towards the Elements right now, especially because of the cost. I gotta fill 2 holes instead of one now. The cost of that one JL is close to the cost of 2 Elements.

Any other suggestions?

Resonant Engineering RE8? It's an 8 inch sub though.

8" won't fit in the stock rear speaker location though

Undermount it. If you are handy with tools, you can take a 6.5" adapter and some wood to mount the 8" woofer.

I built my own plates for the front speakers... but I don't think that really required a lot of work. I just want something to give me some bass because I'll be losing my Kicker.
