Can someone please post how to go about installing 6.5" 2ways in the front doors or a 90 Q45? Or link me to a thread if it's already posted. I need the whole A-Z guys. Thanks.

First you need to change out the headunit as the bose system powers an am thats in the door currently and drives the little 4" or whatevers in there now. If you pull out the bose amp/box/speaker thats in the door you have to fabricate a plate to mount the speaker to.

If you haven't already, then when you change out the headunit you'll need to run new speaker wires to the doors as well as the rear as you'll have to change out the bose speaker/amps back there as well.

Yes, I am aware I'll need a new head unit, and shopping for one now.

I just took out the 4" door unit pod, and i'm wondering what to do to it from there. - Do i reuse it?

- How to i make and mount plate (materials)?

- I can't reuse the original wiring?

- I can't keep the rear bose speakers (bypass amps)? I planned to upgrade those too, but wasn't planning on doing it immediately.

Been a while since I looked at the door pods but I don't think a 6.5 will fit in there even with modification. If you make a plate the easiest material to work with is wood. Most use MDF (medium desity fiberboard) or particle board. 1/4" would be fine for that.

You could use the original wiring if you want I guess. It's a little small to run high power through. The signal from the bose headunit to the door amp is low level so it doesn't need to be very big.

For the rears you could just bypass the amp and wire your headunit directly to the rear speakers but I'd check the speakers ohms. They are matched to the bose amps and might not sound very good running off your new headunit. They might be super loud (if they are low impedence) or super quiet (if the are high impedence). I doubt you'd hurt anything so I guess I'd just try it and see how it goes.

to make the mount you just take the bose pod and put it face down on the material you'll make the mount out of. Trace around it and trace where the screws go.

Then cut it out.

Be sure you got speakers that'll actually clear the window when it's open

Thanks guys, I don't currently plan to add and amp so only running Head unit power for now. I'm simply in need of a better sound my Bose head unit has a really bad short and radio reception is terrible. Basically, Head unit and 2 speakers, unless I'm disatisfied w/ that, then I'll replace the rear Bose 6x9's so~ 4 new speakers.

The Bose pod seems to be in two parts I presume i'm only re-using the bottom portion and mounting the new 6.5 directly into the adaptor plate?

You won't be using any of the old bose pod, the adapter plate mounts directly to the door in place of the bose pod.
